🎉📚 Shoutout to the amazing Shannon Markle!
On Friday we welcomed Shannon from the Cambridge Public Library, and WOW - her enthusiasm is contagious. With 23+ years of experience and a lifelong love of the library, Shannon reminded us that the library is so much more than books. She shared highlights from her popular “40 Things to Do at the Library,” but the truth is… the list could be 400. From hands‑on creative workshops to digital learning, from children’s programs to seniors’ fitness resources, from art galleries to virtual services—the library is one of the most vibrant, inclusive spaces in our city.

Did you know you can:
🏋️ Borrow items from the Active Living Collection
🖨️ Learn large‑format printing
🎭 Join creative workshops
🧬 Explore genealogy
📚 Attend book clubs at the Old Post Office
🎨 Visit the Cambridge Art Galleries

And that’s only the beginning.

Shannon’s mission is simple and powerful: welcome everyone and connect every community member with the resources that help them thrive. Cambridge - your library is bursting with opportunities. Go explore, get inspired, and make the most of this incredible community hub! 💛📚

Yesterday’s Rotary Cambridge Sunrise meeting was bursting with inspiration — the kind of morning that reminds us why Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self hits home every time.

We kicked things off with Adi Janish, a UW student and recent graduate of RYLA — Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. For those who may not know, RYLA is one of Rotary’s flagship youth programs, designed to help young leaders discover their strengths, build confidence, and learn how to lead with integrity, empathy, and purpose. It’s all about empowering the next generation to create positive change in their communities and the world.

Adi shared her RYLA experience with such authenticity and excitement — from stepping outside her comfort zone to connecting with other passionate young leaders. You could feel the room light up as she talked about finding her voice and embracing the kind of leadership that lifts others up. Rotary’s future is in good hands.

Next, we welcomed Sarah Calder from Chartwell Queen’s Square Retirement Residence, and she brought a whole different kind of heart to the morning. As a Retirement Living Consultant, Sarah works closely with seniors and their families to make the transition into retirement living as smooth and supportive as possible. With over 20 years of experience in full‑cycle sales and relationship building, she brings a thoughtful, people‑first approach to every conversation.

Sarah spoke about Chartwell’s mission of Making People’s Lives Better — guiding families through both the emotional and practical sides of senior living, and helping them envision a future filled with comfort, connection, and peace of mind.

Two presenters. Two very different journeys. One shared theme: leading with compassion and the importance of putting people first.

Rotary mornings like this remind us why we show up — to learn, to connect, and to keep building a stronger community together. 💙🌞

Goose on the Grand is a family-friendly outdoor event held at Mill Race Park along the Grand River. The celebration features local art displays, live music, interactive activities, and family programming, along with a Rubber Duck Race on the river. Event highlights include photo opportunities with an 18-foot inflatable goose and the official unveiling of the Cambridge Geese -12 hand-painted, 4.5-foot fiberglass geese created by local artists. With food vendors, hands-on activities for all ages, and community-led attractions, the event celebrates local culture, creativity, and riverside recreation.

A heartfelt thank you to Cambridge Sunrise Rotary for your generous sponsorship of our Zipline Adventure Day during Adventure Camp once again!

Cambridge Public Library highlights the ways we are working to make the community a better place with the release of our 2025 Year in Review. The selection of achievements shines a spotlight on services and celebrates how the library helps our community shape the wonderous story of everyone.

"The 2025 Year in Review celebrates how Cambridge Public Library delivers award-winning services that spark awe in the everyday. Our expanded collections, programming excellence, and increased focus on accessible technologies demonstrate our evolution as a community builder. Our outstanding team remains committed to providing welcoming spaces while finding innovative ways to bring Cambridge together." Chrissy Hodgins, CEO, Cambridge Public Library.

In 2025, Cambridge Public Library provided access to more collections and new experiences with the addition of Junior Rapid Reads and a Kids Sensory Collection at all locations, Express Tools at Preston, and the KineStudy Room at Clemens Mill, which the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming honoured with the 2025 Minister's Award for Innovation.

The 2025 Year in Review is now available at all library locations and online at the link in the comments.
