It’s hard to believe it’s already been a little over a month since the CTMA Technology Tour in Japan!

Our members returned home with valuable insights into advanced manufacturing, automation, tooling, machining technologies, and process improvement after visiting world-class facilities including Mazak and OSG.

Beyond the incredible technology and innovation, the tour was also filled with outstanding hospitality, amazing food, meaningful networking, and unforgettable experiences shared with fellow CTMA members.

Many of the ideas and techniques explored during the tour are already being discussed and implemented back in members’ shops—from tooling and coolant strategies to workflow improvements and machining efficiencies.

That’s a wrap on the CTMA Technology Tour in Japan! 🇯🇵

Wow, what a trip! Filled with learning, innovation, connection, and unforgettable hospitality.

Throughout the tour, we experienced firsthand the best of Japanese manufacturing, technology, and techniques—including visits to multiple Mazak manufacturing facilities, where the scale, precision, and advanced machinery across their plants were truly impressive.

We also gained valuable insights into cutting tools and production, including products like forming taps and carbide drills, and how the right tooling can improve workflow and performance, thanks to OSG.

Our group took part in a tooling seminar, covering topics such as cutting conditions, materials, coolant use, chip control, and machining strategies—including milling, end mills, thread milling, non-ferrous materials, and robot machining—along with live tool demonstrations that brought everything to life.

Thank you to Bl**er Swisslube for highlighting the critical role coolant plays in supporting machinery performance, extending tool life, and driving efficient, high-quality manufacturing.

Beyond the technical side, we experienced so much more—incredible hospitality, amazing food, and meaningful networking with fellow CTMA members. Strong connections were built, ideas were shared, and friendships were formed that will last well beyond this tour.

Most importantly, our members are heading home with practical takeaways—ideas, techniques, and insights they can apply directly in their own shops.
