Rowan's Room Developmental Society We are a charitable organization offering developmental, recreational, educational & respite support programs. We are currently accepting resumes.

We are a private facility offering developmental, educational, recreational, respite and general support to young children ages 2 - 21 years, with developmental, neurological and/or cognitive needs that may not be fully supported in traditional school settings, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Attention Deficit (or Hyperactivity) Disorder (ADD, ADHD) or ot

her special needs that may or may not yet be diagnosed. The services we provide are tailored to each individual child's needs with input from the child's family, school, and therapists where applicable. We want to see every child be successful and reach their full potential while limiting anxiety and stress. Our main directive is to allow these amazing children to focus on their strengths and overcome obstacles by providing a safe, calm and nurturing environment within which to learn at their own pace and in their own unique way. Our team includes special needs teachers, paraprofessionals and volunteers who are all passionate about working with our unique children. Come be a part of something special! email: [email protected]

Amazing!! Just what I envisioned 10 years ago! Just wish the Nova Scotia Government would catch up to Ontario and the rest of the world when it comes to actually supporting inclusion and our children 🤷‍♀️.

It's a new semester in a new classroom for the students at Unique Minds Academy in Barrie, the region's first specialized school supporting children with various neuro-developmental needs.

There are rumours going around that Rowan's Room is closing our doors. These rumours are NOT true.

However, due to the lack of government recognition and support for programs that are critical for the diverse and under-serviced populations we serve, we are having to downsize and restructure our offerings greatly.

While we are not, in fact, closing, these changes still have a profound impact on our staff, students, their families and the communities we serve.

As we continue to navigate what this will look like, we ask that those impacted by the lack of equitable and free access to the supports and services that their human rights entitles them to, reach out to your MLAs and government officials to share how critical programs like ours are essential to an inclusive and barrier free Nova Scotia.

Please feel free to email our Executive Director, Elizabeth Mason-Squires, at [email protected] if you have any questions or if you wish to share your support and stories.

More information will be released in the coming days regarding our restructure.

Thank you to all of the amazing staff, students, families and community members for all you do and for your continued support.
