Alberta’s Referendum is October 19, 2026 🗳️

On October 19, Albertans will be asked to vote on 10 referendum questions that could have significant implications for working people, our public services, our communities, and Alberta’s future.

The Labour Votes position is clear: Vote NO to Questions 1 through 9, and on Question 10, choose Option 1: Alberta should remain a province in Canada.

We encourage CUPE Local 4731 members to learn about the questions, understand what is being proposed, and make a plan to vote.

🧘 Yoga in the Park 🌳

Our Social Committee recently hosted Yoga in the Park, and it was a great opportunity for members to come together, unwind, and take some time to recharge.

Our Social Services members work incredibly hard every day supporting our communities and the most vulnerable populations, and events like this give us a chance to step away from the day-to-day, destress, and connect with one another.

We had a great turnout that kept the event intimate, relaxed, and exactly what it was meant to be.

A big thank you to our Social Committee for organizing, and to everyone who came out and joined us!

There is more fun to come, so keep an eye out for our next social event. We hope to see you there!

CUPE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY: WOMEN BREAKING BARRIERS

CUPE Local 4731 members are encouraged to check out an upcoming union education opportunity being offered in both Lethbridge and Calgary!

Women Breaking Barriers is a two-day workshop that explores women’s experiences in the union, including barriers, challenges and opportunities. Participants will also explore their own leadership style and develop a plan for their next steps in the union.

This workshop is open to members who identify as women.

🚨 STRIKE NOTICE ISSUED 🚨

Tonight, the WestJet Mainline Bargaining Committee formally issued strike notice after negotiations remained too far apart on several key issues.

This does not mean bargaining has ended. Discussions will continue as both parties work toward reaching a fair agreement that recognizes the professionalism, responsibilities, and value of WestJet Cabin Crew.

Under the Canada Labour Code, the earliest possible strike action would be August 2 at 00:01 MT.

We remain united, informed, and committed to achieving the contract our members deserve.

🚨 AVIS DE GRÈVE ÉMIS 🚨

Ce soir, le comité de négociation de la ligne principale de WestJet a officiellement émis un avis de grève, les positions des parties restant trop éloignées sur plusieurs enjeux clés.

Cela ne signifie pas pour autant que les négociations sont terminées. Les discussions se poursuivront, les deux parties s’efforçant de parvenir à une entente équitable qui reconnaisse le professionnalisme, les responsabilités et la valeur du personnel de cabine de WestJet.

En vertu du Code du travail du Canada, la grève pourrait débuter au plus tôt le 2 août à 00 h 01, MT.

Nous restons unis, informés et déterminés à obtenir la convention collective que nos membres méritent.

A huge thank you to our CUPE Local 4731 Social Committee for putting on another great event at Farm Yard for our members and their families!

It was a blast, and it was great to see so many members and families come out and enjoy the day together.

Keep an eye out for future Social Committee events. We always enjoy seeing our members take part and spending time together outside of work.
