Hello Circle,
We wanted to share an opportunity with you, for the younger ones in your families.
The Indigenous Junior Police Academy is a free program for Indigenous youth ages 12–16 from Treaty 7 Territory and surrounding areas. Participants will gain hands-on experience with various areas of the Calgary Police Service, including HAWCS, the Canine Unit, Mounted Unit, Tactical Team, Hate Crimes Unit, fitness training, and more. Youth will also take part in sessions with Tsuut’ina Police and the Discovery Centre.
This program is designed specifically for Indigenous youth, the program combines the Junior Police Academy model with Indigenous cultural teachings and activities. Led by CPS’s Indigenous Relations Team, it aims to build positive relationships, foster trust, and provide a culturally safe learning environment.
The five-day program concludes with a graduation ceremony and Indigenous Cultural Celebration, where families can recognize and celebrate participants’ achievements.
