And just like that… another gardening season is in the bag! Last night was our final Tuesday night market for 2025, and it was a great one - great harvest, great music, great volunteers and neighbours out supporting their local garden. Thanks for being part of this memorable (and productive) chapter in our garden’s history!

🌿 GARDEN IDOLS 🌿
Welcome to our new series where we celebrate legends of leafy leisure, icons of irrigation, heroes and heroines of horticulture, some of our most notable *garden idols*.

First up: Martha. Yes, *that* Martha. The patron saint of Good Things™. She built a business empire, survived its fall, and has been climbing her way back to the top in her unexpected (but delightfully cheeky) second act.

Born in Jersey City, NJ, Martha grew up modestly, learning to garden from her father (who gardened as a way to feed his family) and began her career as a model. Later, carried by her good looks and sense of personal style into the echelons of the East Coast upper class, she became a caterer and business owner. Then came the rise of the domestic diva, with her famous haughtiness and exacting standards, that she parlayed into a publishing, content, and retail goods empire, becoming the first female self-made billionaire in the US. And just as quickly came the smear campaign, federal criminal charges, prison sentence and public fall from grace. If you haven’t seen it yet, the documentary ‘Martha’ tells the whole juicy story - and is a perfect rainy weekend watch.

Now that she’s back on top again (seriously, who had her becoming besties with Snoop Dog on their bingo card?!) we can appreciate her fierceness (at 83, no less!) and the unstoppable energy that’s giving comeback queen, misunderstood mogul, and lavender-scented comeuppance.

Stay tuned for more gardening greats, from famous green thumbs to surprise compost enthusiasts. Got someone you think we should feature? Let us know in the comments. 👇

Gardening demands a great deal of dedication from every gardener, and at some point we all need a little help. This is why at the task of watering is shared, often unprompted and unspoken between neighbours, or communicated with dedicated watering volunteers using these blue signs. At the end of the day, we recognize that when our neighbours’ gardens thrive, so do our own. And that’s the sweetest kind of victory: a collective one. 🍓

“Gardens are not made by singing ‘oh, how beautiful’ and sitting in the shade.” - Rudyard Kipling. Nada chance. They are work. Lots of work. Sweaty, gritty, achy, but ultimately tasty work.

Needing a little burst of beauty in your life? Here is your sign to turn your attention to the humble chive: a quiet hero in the garden 🧅 From its crisp, oniony bite to the delicate burst of purple blooms, it’s beauty and flavour rolled into one pretty package. Asking little in the way of maintenance or even water, it’s like a trusty friend - returning year after year, always there when you need it. 💜
