Alberta Champions Society

Alberta Champions Society Honouring lifetime achievements of Albertans via Fields of Fame. Engaging youth in our history and community. Sharing the stories of "everyday heroes".

Alberta Champions: Who, What and Why? It has been said that the benchmark of a great Place to live is the quality of its people. Alberta is an outstanding province, made even greater by the contributions of thousands of volunteers who participate in projects all over the province every year. In fact, these Albertans are following in the footsteps of past citizens who laid the foundations of this g

reat city. Some current leaders of Alberta saw a challenge in our community around a huge lack of recognition of past community leaders and philanthropists. They have decided it is time we put a face on leaders of the past and honour them appropriately as well. Alberta Champions Society in Recognition of Community Enrichment was formed to commemorate, recognize and honour those Calgarians that have made a significant contribution to the communities in the province of Alberta . This will be achieved by creating “Fields of Fame” around the Province (starting around Calgary, and expanding from there) as tributes to men and women of the past who contributed to the Alberta of today. Alberta Champions is dedicated to inspiring current Albertans (and in particular our youth) to also get engaged in the community. As a result we have created an annual student contest, now in its 14TH YEAR!

If Alberta could talk, it would have a lot to say.

Its story isn’t just found in history books. It lives in conversations, traditions, community spaces, family stories, local legends, and the people who helped shape the places we call home.

That’s what makes preserving these stories so important.

Because when we remember the people who built our communities, we carry their legacy forward.

Some of Alberta’s biggest impact came from names you may have never learned in school.

Not every important story becomes widely known, but that doesn’t make it any less worth remembering.

Across Alberta, there have been community builders, leaders, volunteers, innovators, and quiet changemakers whose efforts shaped the province in ways that still matter today.

They helped build organizations, strengthen communities, create opportunities, and move Alberta forward, often without widespread recognition.

That’s part of why preserving these stories matters.

Jim Carrey paying his respect to Canada!

Canada has produced some of the world's most recognizable actors, musicians, athletes, innovators, and leaders. Yet what many of them share isn't fame—it's a deep appreciation for where they came from.

Canada shapes people in unique ways. Growing up surrounded by diverse cultures, breathtaking landscapes, strong communities, and values rooted in respect and cooperation leaves a lasting mark.

Whether you're from a small prairie town, a coastal village, a northern community, or one of our great cities, there is a shared Canadian experience that connects us all.

Being Canadian isn't about where you're born. It's about embracing the values that make this country strong: kindness, fairness, inclusion, and perseverance.

What makes you proud to be Canadian? 🍁

When people hear the word “champion,” they often think of awards, titles, or trophies.

But some of the most meaningful champions are the people who shaped their communities quietly and consistently.

The ones who mentored.
Volunteered.
Supported others.
Created opportunities.
Kept showing up.

Their stories matter because their impact lives on in the people and communities they helped build.

If there is someone whose legacy deserves to be honoured, we’d love to hear their story.

Did you know Alberta was named after royalty?

The province takes its name from Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria.

It’s one of those small details that makes Alberta’s history feel even more layered, a reminder that the names we use every day often carry stories of their own.

From the places we visit to the people we remember, Alberta’s history is full of connections worth exploring.
