Kristina is a research and patient engagement specialist with a background in nursing and lived experience as a parent of children with complex medical needs. She is dedicated to strengthening partnerships between patient communities and the research world, ensuring that lived experience plays a central role in shaping research and care.

Kristina’s work focuses on patient engagement, co-development, and shared decision-making—helping ensure families are active contributors rather than passive participants in research.

Dr. Nikitovic is the Research Coordinator and co-lead of Research4Families, where she uses qualitative research to ensure that the voices of children, families, and clinicians are meaningfully integrated into pediatric health research. She is deeply committed to empowering children and youth to participate not only as research subjects, but as active partners and contributors.

Join us to hear Dr. Nikitovic discuss patient partnerships, youth voice, and how family-engaged research leads to more ethical and impactful care.

As the most common motor disability of childhood, cerebral palsy impacts the lives of approximately 80,000 Canadians. Join us for an evening of learning and discussion focused on patient and family engagement in cerebral palsy research and care.

This free, community-engaged panel will bring together University of Calgary speakers with expertise in patient partnership, lived experience, and family-engaged research. The evening will feature short presentations from each speaker, followed by Q&A sessions, a moderated discussion, and closing remarks. Light refreshments will be provided during a short intermission.

🎙️ Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Scott McLeod

We’re proud to feature Dr. Scott McLeod at the Advances in Cerebral Palsy community panel!

Dr. McLeod is a Developmental Pediatrician at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Calgary. He serves as the Medical Director of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Program and leads the Early Detection and Intervention team within the Cerebral Palsy Pathway.

His clinical and research work focuses on early identification, diagnosis, and intervention for children at risk of cerebral palsy — ensuring that families receive timely, coordinated, and effective care. Dr. McLeod is a national leader in promoting family-centered early intervention models and has been instrumental in developing standardized pathways that support children’s development from infancy through childhood.

🎙️ Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Elizabeth Condliffe

We’re excited to feature Dr. Elizabeth Condliffe at the Advances in Cerebral Palsy community panel!

Dr. Condliffe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and a pediatric neurologist at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. She leads the Motor Control and Rehabilitation Laboratory (MoRe Lab) at the University of Calgary, where her research focuses on neurophysiology, motor learning, and rehabilitation interventions that improve movement and function in children with cerebral palsy.

Through her innovative use of motion analysis, neuroimaging, and neuromodulation, Dr. Condliffe’s work bridges clinical care and biomedical engineering — advancing how we understand and enhance motor recovery in children and youth. She is also a dedicated mentor and advocate for translational research that directly benefits families and communities.
