Remember counting shower minutes? Here we go again, but this time it’s planned, and it’s the last big step.

Starting Tuesday, November 4, Calgary is back on Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions for about four weeks. Crews are connecting the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main to the water system. While they do, the old pipe has to be shut down and the city will rely mostly on one water treatment plant, which sharply limits how much water can go around.

What it means in Signal Hill:

- The rink waits. No outdoor ice making means our volunteer crew can’t start flooding the Signal Hill rink until the restrictions lift, around early December. We’ll post the first flood date as soon as the City gives the all-clear.
- At the Community Centre, we’ll put the City’s save-water posters up in the washrooms and ask room renters to go easy on water.
- Running a business or program? The City has sector-specific tips at Save water at work.

What happens next:

The restrictions start November 4 and last about four weeks, until the connection is done. The City will announce when they lift. After that, the new pipe takes over and Calgary’s water supply should be far more reliable for years to come.

Join in the celebration!

The new Mini playground at Battalion Park School got a big boost from Signal Hill: $100,000 from the SHCA, the largest grant we have ever made. Landscaping is wrapping up, the benches and tables are going in, and the grand opening is set for Saturday, October 24 at 2 PM. The students will cut the ribbon, and the school would love all of Signal Hill standing behind them. A few extra hands on the day would help too.

Nobody gets paid to flood the rink at night, line the courts or put on Neighbour Day. Neighbours do it, and member households pay for it, for all 14,000 of us. Since 1987 that has been the deal that keeps Signal Hill feeling like a place, not just a postcode.

This fall we want people to see it. Every member home gets a free lawn sign. Pick the one that sounds like your household, and our team will put it in for you.

Some of the stuff you’ve been putting in the black cart can now go in the blue one.

As of October 1, 2026, Calgary’s blue cart accepts four kinds of packaging it used to turn away. This is part of Alberta’s new recycling rules (Extended Producer Responsibility), which make the companies that make packaging responsible for recycling it. The upside is that the same list now applies everywhere in Alberta.

We are running a community pumpkin carving on Sunday, October 25, 1 to 5 PM, at the Signal Hill Community Centre, in the multi-purpose room and out on the rink. We are providing 50 pumpkins, so bring the kids, pick a face, and leave the mess with us. RSVP so we know how many little carvers to plan for, and if you can spare an hour, join the crew that makes it happen.
