Our mission is to support children and young people in achieving their full potential and acquiring values that favor their growth promoting the collective practice of music. We do this by making music programs accessible to all children and youth, especially to families in economic, social and cultural disadvantage to develop values that favor their growth and their holistic development in socie

ty. Our vision is a future where all children and youth in Calgary have the opportunity to learn, make and share music through their involvement in music programs. The main scope of the El Sistema Calgary is the Calgary Multicultural Orchestra (CMO). The Calgary Multicultural Orchestra is a free After School music program for children, ages 7 to 18, running Monday to Friday during critical - afterschool hours. We provide free-loan instruments school year-around, free music lessons and snacks to those who participate in the program. Through our activities we looking for:
To Increase a good use of free time and sense of belonging in children and youth
To Develop their intellectual and emotional side and
To Reduce their exposure to negative influences and high-risk behaviors. The CMO started in Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in 2009 with Jose Duque as volunteer and the only music teacher with around 15 children. We are so proud of celebrating our 12th anniversary!!
