Retiring is probably the toughest decision any elite athlete has to make. Sadly, that day has come for one of our most decorated nordic combined atheletes, Nathaniel Mah.
Nathaniel came by the nickname "Mini" honestly. What do you expect when you tell your mom...at the age of 3 years old...that you want to be a ski jumper. Over the next 18 years, Mini grew from happy hopper to sole member of the national nordic combined team, proudly representing Canada in many international ski jumping and nordic combined competitions, including two world Championships, a Youth Olympic Games, as well as many World Cups, Grand Prix’s, and Continental Cups.
Battling through tough times and injuries, Nathaniel's indominable spirit and never-quit attitude enabled him to score multiple COC points, Grand Prix points, and a Youth Olympic Bronze medal, something that few Canadians have ever achieved.
ASJNC would like to thank Nathaniel for everything he has given to his sport. We wish him the very best as he begins his post-secondary studies in the hope of one day working as a physiotherapist or chiropractor. And we haven't seen the last of him in our sport. Nathaniel is determined to be involved with the future of Nordic Combined in Canada.
"I will always be grateful that I have been able to have this opportunity that so few are able to have. Though I didn’t reach all of the goals I dreamt of, the experiences, friends, and lessons I have learned far outweigh any result I could ever achieve. The sport will forever be a part of my life, and I will cherish the memories forever."
