Sometimes, shining a light starts with something simple: noticing, checking in, offering a ride, walking a beloved dog, or making one phone call.
For older adults across Calgary, those small moments of connection can mean so much.

Heidi’s story began with someone noticing she needed help. What followed was a community of support, a social worker who showed up, volunteers who have stepped up, rides to important appointments, and a friendly voice checking in so she knew she wasn’t alone. That is what your support makes possible.

We’re feeling especially grateful for the volunteers, donors, neighbours and community partners who continue to show up for older adults across Calgary.

Together, we can keep shining a light on connection, dignity and belonging.

This month, we are inviting you to add a little colour and kindness to your community! 🎨💛

One of our very talented Calgary Seniors volunteers, Ayesha, has created a special colouring page for our community. Colouring is a wonderful way to relax, get creative, and have a little fun.

Once you have finished your masterpiece, share it with someone in your community! You could give it to a neighbour, mail it to a friend or family member, or display it somewhere that might brighten someone’s day.

We would love to know who you are sharing your colouring page with! Whether it’s a neighbour, friend, family member, or someone else in your community, a simple act of creativity can be a wonderful way to spark a conversation, share a smile, and help someone feel connected.

Meet Hannah and learn about our Phone Friends program, where volunteers connect with older adults through regular friendly phone calls.

These conversations help reduce isolation, build meaningful connections, and give seniors something to look forward to each week. For many participants, it’s not just a phone call—it’s a friendship.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering but aren’t sure where to start, Phone Friends is a great introduction. A small commitment of your time can have a big impact on someone’s day.

Meet Haley, one of our Senior System Navigators.
Sometimes seniors connect with us through a referral, but often it’s much simpler than that. They give us a call, stop by our office, or find us through a conversation with someone they trust.

Our Senior System Navigators help older adults navigate available resources, explore options, and overcome barriers that may be impacting their well-being. Through office visits and short-term support, they work alongside seniors to connect them with services, programs, and community supports that can make everyday life easier.

No question is too small. If you’re not sure where to turn, we’re a great place to start.

Calgary, let's talk weekend plans. ☁️ It's been a smoky week, but Sunday's looking like the perfect excuse to head indoors and shop local instead.

Swing by The Barn Artisan Market Calgary this Sunday, July 26 (11am–4pm, at the historic Shawnessy Barn) and look for our very own volunteer, Sophie, who'll be there selling her beautiful handmade cards! Every card is crafted with care, and every purchase helps support the work we do for older adults right here in Calgary.

💌 Have you heard? A simple card can brighten someone’s whole week.

What started as a small volunteer initiative has grown into a meaningful way to connect with older adults in our community. Through Cheer Mail, volunteers send thoughtful cards and messages to seniors, bringing a little joy to their mailbox and a reminder that someone is thinking of them.

And lately, we’ve been receiving something special in return. 💕

Seniors are sending their own cards back to us, sharing stories, gratitude, and just how much these messages mean to them. It’s a beautiful reminder that connection doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with a handwritten note.
