Join the Squad! | Free online training

The Ready Squad e-course is designed for kids aged 7 to 12.

It’s a fun and interactive way to teach kids how to prepare for and stay safe during emergencies.

After completing the e-course, participants will be able to print off a certificate!

With the new school year underway, it’s a great time for families to review their emergency preparedness plans. 🌩️ Storms, losing power, and other emergencies can happen anytime and anywhere. Helping kids understand what to expect and what to do can make these situations feel less overwhelming.

✅ There are different ways to get kids involved, from talking about Calgary's disaster risks and creating a family emergency plan, to practicing what to do during an emergency. These conversations can help build confidence and prepare the whole family to respond when needed.

Families can also try the Junior Weather Forecaster's Challenge, a fun and interactive way to learn more about Calgary's weather and its impacts.

City of Calgary | Blue Cart Recycling Changes | October 1st

Recycle more packaging this October ♻️

Starting October 1, 2026, Calgarians will be able to recycle more materials in their blue carts. The changes are part of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy, which makes manufacturers responsible for managing the recycling of their products.

This includes:

✅ Flexible bags like chip bags, granola wrappers, and coffee bags

✅ Foam packaging like cushion blocks, meat trays, and egg cartons

✅ Tubes like lotion tubes, deodorant, and toothpaste

✅ Food and body aerosols like cooking spray, hair spray and sunscreen
