The Canadian Alliance for Intergenerational Living pays tribute today to the brave men and women who served in the Canadian Armed Forces, sacrificing so much for the peace and freedoms we hold dear. Their courage, strength, and resilience have shaped the very fabric of our nation.

Many of our seniors lived through these pivotal moments in history. Their stories, whether of service, home-front support, or the enduring impact of wartime, are priceless. We not only honour our veterans, but also celebrate the wisdom and experience that our older generations bring to our communities.

To all veterans, we thank you for your sacrifice and your enduring legacy. Lest we forget.

Housing plays a big role in our health, affecting everything from loneliness to stress to social isolation. Specializing in restoring mobility and health, Shannon is one of our pilot students living at Silvera for Seniors’ Westview Town Suites in SW Calgary. For her volunteer hours, she leads three fitness classes a week, which her newfound neighbours are enjoying! The benefits of regular stretching are numerous, especially as we age.

Shannon applies her skills in promoting health and wellness practices – including movement, cognitive skills, and stress management – while providing companionship, drawing on over two decades of experience working with older adults. Ten seniors joined yesterday's class.

The federal government has announced a $750,000 investment through the Affordable Housing Fund for 15 new affordable homes for seniors in Lethbridge, located in a redeveloped historic convent. The project, operated by the Green Acres Foundation, aims to address the needs of one of Lethbridge's fastest-growing demographics: older adults.

This funding is part of a larger commitment, with over $458 million allocated to Alberta since 2017 through the Affordable Housing Fund. Local officials emphasize the importance of affordable housing for seniors, aligning with the city's strategic goals.
