Join us on 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 for an inspiring evening with 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗠𝗰𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗽, a guide, outdoor educator, and Search and Rescue member with over a decade of experience exploring remote places around the world.

With a background in sea kayaking, mountaineering, and extended overland travel, Thomas has led expeditions along the Arctic Ocean, through West Africa, and across North America. He brings a wealth of experience in trip planning, risk management, and creating resilient adventures in unpredictable environments.

Youth and Scouters are invited to hear from Thomas, get inspired, and start dreaming up their own adventures as they prepare their Grizzly Den applications for this year. Doors Open at 6:30pm

As always, we recommend our Beaver and Cub youth attend the Inspirational Evening virtually as it will go past their “bedtime”. The Virtual meeting starts at 6:45.

Your voice matters. What Does Recognition Mean to You?

Volunteers are at the heart of Scouting. Every week, you give your time, energy, skills and passion to create meaningful experiences for youth and strengthen our Scouting communities.

We’re working to better understand what meaningful recognition looks like to Scouters and how Scouts Canada can build a stronger culture of appreciation across the organization.

This Town Hall is an opportunity to:
Share your ideas and experiences — What does meaningful recognition look like to you?
Tell us what is working and what isn’t with current recognition approaches.
Ask questions and raise concerns about volunteer recognition.
Suggest new ideas for how we can recognize what volunteers give to youth and Scouting.
Help us clarify roles and responsibilities — who does what when it comes to recognition, and where can volunteers find the information and resources they need?
Help shape what comes next — our goal is to take what we hear and use it to help develop a recognition system/program that is meaningful, accessible and consistent.
This is a conversation, not a presentation. Come ready to listen, share, ask questions and be honest. Your feedback matters, and we’re committed to being transparent about what we hear and what happens next.

This work can only succeed with volunteer input. A Scouts Canada Volunteer Recognition Survey will also be shared soon through this meeting, social media and councils to hear from even more volunteers.

This is your opportunity to help us build a recognition system that is meaningful, accessible, consistent and volunteer-informed.
And while we’re talking about recognition: thank someone today. What we do matters — and it’s good to be reminded of that.

Today, on August 1st, Scouts around the globe are marking World Scout Scarf Day by proudly wearing their scarves—or neckerchiefs—as a symbol of unity, identity, and the enduring spirit of Scouting! 🧣

This special day commemorates a pivotal moment in Scouting history: the very first Scout camp, held on Brownsea Island in 1907.

Led by Robert Baden-Powell, this historic camp in Poole Harbour, England, served as the first practical test of the ideas that would later be published in Scouting for Boys. Boys from all walks of life came together to learn woodcraft, observation, camping, chivalry, lifesaving, and patriotism, the same core values that continue to shape Scouting worldwide today.

More than a century later, Scouting welcomes all youth into a community built on adventure, friendship, and personal growth. At the core of it all is a simple idea: doing a good turn daily, and working together to make the world a little bit better, one good deed at a time.
