Thank you to MDI for organizing such an important walk for a meaningful cause.
The 2nd Annual MDI Mental Health Walk was a great success, bringing together people from all walks of life in support of mental health awareness.
The event began with an introduction by MDI President Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Aslam, followed by a beautiful recitation of the Holy Quran by Abdul Rahman.
Zuha Rafiq, University of Calgary student, President of Jack.org UCalgary, and President of Youth Lifting Youth, spoke about mental health challenges facing students and youth in their daily lives. She also shared the expectations youth have from community leaders and organizations like MDI.
Dr. Abdul Rahman, a prominent child psychiatrist, community leader, and member of the MDI Board of Trustees, discussed the mental health challenges facing our community, especially our youth. He emphasized the importance of events like this and the need for open discussion among all stakeholders.
Everyone enjoyed walking together for a great cause on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. After the walk, participants enjoyed light, healthy snacks.
Mr. Muhammad Yaseen, Associate Minister of Immigration, also addressed participants and assured government support for mental health initiatives.
At the end of the event, red roses were distributed to female participants in honour of Mother’s Day.
