New Urban Farm Partnerships

New Urban Farm Partnerships NUFP aims to foster urban agriculture and food security in Calgary through connecting urban farmers and landholders, and challenging policy barriers.

New Urban Farm Partnerships aims to foster urban agriculture in Calgary through connecting urban farmers with land where they can produce nutritious and sustainable food while engaging citizens, activating underutilized public, private and institutional spaces, and working toward restoring and revitalizing the urban food system. We seek to achieve this objective through catalyzing partnerships bet

ween urban farmers and landholders in the city, and initiating urban agriculture pilot projects on those lands. Urban agriculture can not only provide nutritious and ethically and sustainably produced food, but also strengthen local economies, create opportunities for community engagement and knowledge and skill sharing, and stimulate innovation. Through the work of imagineCalgary and Calgary EATS!, food system and sustainability targets and actions have been identified. Establishing a pilot for urban agriculture in Calgary would serve as a model and test case for these goals and the impact that a fully developed and supported system of urban agriculture could have on Calgary’s food system and beyond.
