“Poor mental health would be like neglecting yourself both physically and mentally.”- Youth Participant, Planet Youth Calgary.

Our 2024-2025 research cycle showed that only 52.9% of youth would consider their mental health to be good or very good.

At Planet Youth Calgary, we are dedicated to understanding the challenges facing young people, with mental health at the core of this work. Today, on National Child and Youth Mental Health Day, we acknowledge the pressures young people face and the importance of supporting their well-being.

💙 Blue Monday 💙

Today is , a time when feelings of stress, low mood, and fatigue can feel heavier for many.

At Planet Youth Calgary, we focus on the conditions that shape wellbeing. Strong relationships, a sense of belonging, supportive families, schools, and communities — these are key protective factors for young people’s mental health. Wellbeing isn’t built in isolation; it grows through connection, care, and shared responsibility.

Prevention works when communities work together. 💫

Happy New Year, Calgary! 🎉

As we step into 2026, we want to thank everyone who joined us last year. Your voices, ideas, and energy helped make our Action Planning sessions and community activities meaningful and inspiring.

In the spirit of new beginnings, we’re excited to share what’s next!

This January, the Planet Youth Calgary team — together with our community coalitions — will begin prototyping the strategies and project ideas identified by the community.

What does that look like?
During our upcoming coalition meeting, we’ll build small, simple versions of your ideas — maybe a basic event, a simple activity, or even a rough PowerPoint model. These early versions help us learn:
✨ Will people join in?
✨ Do they feel welcome and included?
✨ Are there barriers we didn’t expect?
✨ Does the idea truly fit our community?

By testing ideas early, we can make sure the final programs are inclusive, meaningful, and grounded in real community needs.

As we begin this new year, we’re grateful to be building a healthier, more connected Calgary together.

Here’s to 2026 — a year of learning, growing, and creating spaces where children and youth feel seen, supported, and valued. 💛

Weeks of deep conversations, planning sessions, reflection, and collaboration — all rooted in youth voice and community experience — led us here.

Last week, all four of our coalitions proudly presented the ideas and strategies that emerged from the 2024–2025 data and community action planning. What began as curious questions and early ideas has grown into a shared action plan shaped by youth and parents, grounded in the domains and themes most meaningful to their communities.

This celebrates the completion of an important planning process and the start of meaningful solutions in action. We’re so proud of this work and deeply thankful to the youth, families, and community partners who made it all possible!✨

We are turning data into action — together.

Over the past weeks, community members, youth, service providers, and local leaders have been gathering to review our 2024-2025 research findings, share lived experiences, and prioritize what matters most to them.

Through open conversations, small-group discussions, and collaborative voting, each community has identified the priorities they believe will make the greatest impact on their youth.

This process isn’t just about highlighting issues — it’s about bringing people together to create realistic, community-driven solutions.
