A little more on the book club.
We have selected three themes to anchor our conversations between November and February.
BUILT, BIOLOGICAL & BEHAVIOURAL FIELDS.
These are the sections that translate most directly to a Calgary yard, house, and winter.
Sessions will be a mix of online and in person.
You are welcome whether you have read every page or only the chapter at hand.
3 copies remain in our bulk order at $70, compared with $140 and up at retail.

Save the date.
On Saturday, November 7 we are gathering for a community potluck built around local food, good company, and a long table.
After a season of digging, planting, and hauling compost, this is the part where we gather together.
Bring a dish, bring a neighbour.

What if your yard held onto its own water?
Join our VP Colleen Cyca and the Calgary Horticultural Society for Part 4 of YardSmart: Rainwater Harvest.
This session covers swales and rain gardens, two of the most approachable ways to slow water down and let it soak in. Thursday, October 8, 12:00 to 12:45 pm, online and free. Bring your lunch.
There is still time to install before ground freeze, and plenty more to plan for spring.

Round two of our RetroSuburbia bulk book order is open until Sunday, October 25, and our book club begins in November.
RetroSuburbia is David Holmgren’s guide to retrofitting the homes and lives we already have, built around the behavioural, built, and biological changes that make a household more resilient. It is a big, practical, deeply readable book, and it rewards reading in company.
Through the Guild it is $70. Retail runs $140 and up. We have five copies available right now. Once those are spoken for, we will gauge interest before placing another order, so if you have been thinking about it, this is a good moment.
Our team is shaping the book club now, with at least six sessions planned between November and February built around selected chapters. Full details are coming together, and we will share the schedule soon.

There is more than one way to be part of the Guild.
This Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 am we are hosting an online session to walk through all of them.
Some people join our board or one of our circles and help shape the year ahead. Others give a few hours to a single event, like the Harvest Supper in November or Cabin Fever next spring. Both keep this community growing, and both are open right now.
Come hear how we work, what each circle holds, and what the events ahead will need. Bring your questions, or bring nothing at all. No commitment, just a conversation.

We're hosting a Permablitz - and we'd love to have you join us.

On Saturday, July 11, we'll be working alongside Carmen Lamoureux of Urban Farm School and the team at Hull Services. The plan: orchard planting, tree guard installation, and trunk guards. Pizza lunch provided. Permie Drinks at The Point Public House after.

Bring your gloves, water bottle, sunscreen, and come ready for a hands-on day with good people and meaningful work.

July’s Permablitz! (Signup link in bio)

Join us Saturday, July 11 for our next blitz! We will be at Hull Services in partnership with URBAN FARM SCHOOL planting in the orchard, installing tree guards and restoring this beautiful space for the community!

Time: 10am-4pm
Location: William Roper Hull School

A pizza lunch will be provided (please feel free to bring your own if you happen to have specific dietary requirements.)

Please dress weather-appropriately, bring work gloves, a water bottle, and an open mind. Newcomers especially welcome, you don’t need experience, just willingness.
When the shovels go down, the glasses will be raised. All are welcome to join us for Permie Drinks afterward at The Point Public House, 4-6 pm!
