Welcome to Week 3 of the IAACC’s Artist Series, which explores the impact of the IAACC's loss of parking revenue during GlobalFest on artists, the community, and economic development.
This week, we feature Lera Bersenova, a talented Ukrainian oil painting artist. Lera has participated in two of our programs: the Artist in Residency and the Artist-Led Initiatives.
Artist-Led Initiatives – This program invites local artists to submit proposals for art or cultural projects that would benefit East Calgary. Potential projects may include murals, workshops, and events, all designed to create economic opportunities. If an artist chooses to incorporate a public engagement component (such as a workshop or event), the Artist-Led Initiative program yields two significant outcomes: 1) Artists gain valuable experience in enhancing not only their technical abilities but also the essential soft skills related to program administration, organization, communication, and instruction. 2) Community residents benefit from an accessible program that allows them to acquire new skills, foster a sense of community, and enjoy a much-needed creative outlet, particularly during challenging times.
However, the IAACC is facing a significant funding shortfall, which poses a direct threat to the support systems for artists like Lera. This loss jeopardizes the resources and opportunities that allow artists to thrive. In response, IAACC is actively pursuing new sponsorships and exploring various fundraising opportunities to bridge the gap. IAACC is seeking partnerships with local businesses, arts patrons, and community organizations to ensure the continuity of these essential programs. If you know of any opportunities that can benefit IAACC, please contact [email protected].
Even the smallest contributions can collectively make a substantial impact, through the Rogers Birdies for Kids program, donations will be matched by up to 50%.
