Today, Binhi ng Lahi Folkloric Dance Ensemble of Calgary, Canada humbly joins the Filipino nation in honoring the birth anniversary of Dr. José P. Rizal — our national hero, whose life continues to inspire love of country, education, culture, and Filipino identity across generations and across borders.

“Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika ay daig pa ang hayop at malansang isda.”

This powerful reminder teaches us that language is the heartbeat of our heritage, the voice of our ancestors, and the soul of our people. Yet language is not spoken only through words. It also lives through movement, music, costume, ritual, and tradition.

Folk dance is the living archive of a community. Through rhythmic movement, traditional costumes, and ancestral music, it expresses the history, beliefs, and shared soul of a culture without relying on words. For Binhi ng Lahi, every step becomes a story, every gesture becomes memory, and every performance becomes an act of cultural preservation.

Even in Canada, the Filipino spirit continues to flourish through dance, education, and community. May Rizal’s legacy inspire us to honor our language, protect our heritage, and pass on the beauty of Filipino identity to future generations.
