The Calgary Circle

The idea of creating The Calgary Circle began when a group of women came together to celebrate The Circle’s Chai Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. After that first meeting, nine women from diverse backgrounds and professions joined forces to form The Calgary Circle Executive Committee.

Members of the Calgary Circle are unified by our geographical base in the vibrant City of Calgary, located in the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains. We are brought together by our commitment to support vulnerable and disempowered women locally and globally. We are dedicated to raising greater awareness in our community about s*x trafficking, which is a growing problem in Canada and across the globe. The Calgary Circle is committed to raising funds to benefit The Action Coalition on Human Trafficking (ACT Alberta).

Globally, three-quarters of human trafficking is for s*x, and most victims are women and girls. In Canada, s*x trafficking remains an issue within and across borders. 70% of the survivors that ACT Alberta assists are women. All of the survivors of s*x trafficking assisted by ACT Alberta are women and trans women. 50% of the labour trafficking victims they have assisted have been women, and many of these women have experienced s*xual violence inflicted by their traffickers.

Education, advocacy, agency collaboration and victim assistance are all essential in tackling the issue of s*x trafficking of women and girls.
