Stardale Women's Group Stardale Women’s Group is a charity that empowers Indigenous girls through lifeskills and literacy programming Developed by the Stardale Women's Group Inc.

We believe that when we provide positive, supportive environments for Indigenous young women and girls, we build resilience across generations. We want all of the Indigenous young women and girls we serve to live in a strong, supportive and inclusive community where all Indigenous People have assets to thrive and are equal participants in Calgary’s future. Foundation, Stardale Women’s Group opened

its doors for service in Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1998, to serve the communities in Northern Saskatchewan. Since that time, it has expanded to provide outreach to Southern Alberta. We are a non-profit organization and a registered charity. Our charity number is 894942622RR0001.

We are very excited to be heading to The Confluence this September for a special evening celebrating storytelling, music and community!

On Thursday, September 17, Stardale Women’s Group will join the Calgary Justice Film Festival for a CJFF justREEL community event featuring two of Stardale’s films, Shadows in Time and The Road. Both films give Indigenous young women and girls an opportunity to share their experiences, perspectives and stories through the power of filmmaking.

The evening will also include a live performance from the Stardale Women’s Group Drummers, along with a special presentation and conversation with playwright, performer and advocate for social change Eugene Stickland. After the films and performances, guests are invited to stay for a reception and spend a little more time connecting with Eugene and the youth drummers.

We always love opportunities to bring Stardale’s stories beyond our own walls and into the community, and we hope you will join us for what promises to be a meaningful and memorable evening.

What if the end of summer isn’t really an ending at all?🌾

As the days begin to cool and routines slowly return, this time of year can bring a mix of emotions. Excitement, nerves, uncertainty, even a little sadness for the freedom and memories summer gave us.

But the end of summer can also be a powerful time to reflect.

Not just on what we *did*, but on what we learned about ourselves along the way.

Maybe you discovered that you’re more independent than you thought. Maybe you tried something new, spent more time outdoors, connected with family or community, learned from an Elder, made a new friend, or simply gave yourself space to rest.

Those experiences matter.

They become part of the knowledge you carry forward.

For young Indigenous women, growth can come from many places, including culture, relationships, creativity, community, and the land around us. Every experience can teach us something about who we are, what we value, and what we want to carry with us into the next season. 🌿

As summer comes to a close, this is a chance to ask:

**What do I want to bring with me?
What am I proud of?
What have I learned?
And what am I ready to explore next?**

A new season doesn’t mean starting over. It means moving forward with everything you’ve already learned, experienced, and become.

And there is so much strength in that. 💛

**Have you ever looked at something you needed to do and thought, “I don’t know if I can do this”?** 💛

That feeling can show up at school, in friendships, in new experiences, or even in the little moments where we’re asked to trust ourselves.

Sometimes confidence isn’t about being the loudest person in the room. It’s about believing that your ideas matter. Trusting that you can figure things out. Letting yourself try, even when you’re unsure. And knowing that making a mistake doesn’t mean you aren’t capable.

For young people, especially when school already comes with pressure, comparison, and the feeling that everyone else has it figured out, confidence can take a hit.

That’s where support and belonging can make such a difference.

At Stardale, young Indigenous women are given space to build friendships, discover their strengths, try new things, ask questions, learn from each other, and grow into their own abilities. 🌿

Because when someone starts to feel accepted, supported, and encouraged, they can begin to trust themselves a little more too.

**I can do this.
I can learn this.
I can try again.
I belong here.**

And sometimes, that quiet shift in self-belief is where empowerment really begins.

Belonging can change so much. 💛

When a young person feels accepted for exactly who they are, something begins to open up. They feel safer speaking up, trying new things, building friendships, and discovering the parts of themselves they may not have had the confidence to explore before.

Feeling like you belong gives you room to grow into yourself. It reminds you that your voice matters, your story matters, and you don’t have to become someone else to be worthy of connection.

At Stardale, creating that sense of community is about more than simply bringing girls together. It’s about helping young Indigenous women feel seen, supported, encouraged, and empowered to discover who they are and who they want to become. 🌿

Sometimes empowerment begins with something beautifully simple: **knowing there is a place where you are accepted.**

Summer can be a beautiful time for Indigenous young women to reconnect with the land, culture, community, and themselves. 🌿☀️

From berry picking and spending time near the water, to learning about plants, gathering medicines, creating art, listening to stories, hiking, cooking together, or simply sharing laughter outdoors, these experiences can offer so much more than a fun day in the sun.

They can build confidence, strengthen relationships, encourage curiosity, and create space for cultural knowledge to be shared across generations. Every outing can become a chance to learn something new, feel grounded, and make memories that carry forward long after summer ends. 💛

Sometimes, coming out of your shell happens in the simplest moments. 💛

It can happen while spending a summer afternoon outside, picking berries, exploring nature, sharing stories, laughing together, or trying something new surrounded by people who make you feel like you belong.

These experiences are about so much more than the activity itself. They create opportunities for young women to build confidence, form meaningful connections, learn from one another, and discover the strength of their own voices.

Every shared adventure, conversation, and moment spent together helps create a community where young women can feel seen, heard, supported, and comfortable being themselves. 🌿✨

And sometimes, that little bit of encouragement is all it takes for someone to begin coming out of their shell.

Today, on the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we celebrate the voices, cultures, knowledge, strength, and stories of Indigenous peoples around the world. 🧡

It is also a day to recognize the importance of creating spaces where Indigenous young people can feel proud of who they are, connected to their culture, and supported by the communities around them.

For young Indigenous women, that sense of belonging can be powerful.

It can grow through time spent with Elders.
Through stories and teachings passed between generations.
Through friendship, creativity, laughter, and shared experiences.
And through knowing that their ideas, voices, and dreams deserve to be heard.

Today is a celebration of cultures that are living, growing, creating, teaching, and continuing forward.

And as we honour Indigenous peoples around the world, we also celebrate the young women carrying their own stories, strengths, and identities into the future.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments happen around a table.

A few craft supplies, a little creativity, some laughter, and suddenly the space becomes something more.

It becomes a place to connect.

A place to try something new.

A place to express yourself without needing to have all the right words.

Creative activities can help young women build confidence, discover new strengths, and feel more comfortable sharing who they are. And when that creativity happens in a supportive group, it can also strengthen friendships and create a real sense of belonging.

At Stardale, these shared moments matter because growth is not always loud or obvious.

Sometimes it looks like making something with your hands.

Sometimes it looks like encouraging the person beside you.

Sometimes it looks like realizing that your ideas are worth sharing.

And sometimes it is simply knowing you are in a space where you are welcomed, supported, and free to be yourself. 💛

There is something powerful about stepping outside and giving yourself space to simply be. 🌿

Away from the noise and the rush, nature can give us room to breathe, connect, laugh, reflect, and notice the world around us a little differently.

For young Indigenous women, time spent on the land can also hold a deeper meaning. It can create opportunities for connection to culture, community, one another, and the stories and teachings that continue to be carried forward.

At Stardale, growth is about more than reaching a destination. It is about helping young women discover their strengths, build confidence in their voices, and know that they have a place where they belong.

And sometimes those lessons happen in the simplest moments.

Walking together.
Sharing a conversation.
Taking in the view.
Laughing with friends.
Feeling grounded in where you are.

These moments become part of a much bigger journey: learning who you are, recognizing your own strength, and knowing that you do not have to walk that journey alone.
