Our hearts are full.
On behalf of the Executive of the Swiss Cultural Society of Calgary, thank you for making this year's Swiss National Day celebration one of the most memorable celebrations we've shared together. Days like yesterday remind us that our club is so much more than an organization—it is a family, brought together by our shared heritage, traditions, and friendships.
One of the greatest joys of the day was seeing so many children and young families celebrating alongside us. Watching the kids laugh, play, and make new friends throughout the afternoon was truly heartwarming. They reminded us that our Swiss traditions are not only being celebrated today but are also being passed on to the next generation. Their energy, kindness, and the beautiful way they all played together made the day even more special.
We were also incredibly touched to welcome visitors from Switzerland who joined us for the celebration. It was an honour to share with them how our Swiss community here in Calgary continues to celebrate, preserve, and cherish our Swiss heritage, even thousands of kilometres from home. We hope they left knowing just how proud we are of our roots and how strong our Swiss spirit remains.
A very special thank you goes to our Swiss Consul and his wife for travelling from Vancouver to celebrate with us. Your presence meant a great deal to our club, and we sincerely appreciate you taking the time to join our celebration. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Pam Farrell and her family for honouring us with their presence. Having you celebrate alongside us made the day even more meaningful.
Special recognition also goes to Emma and Keira, who looked after both the ticket table and the bar throughout the event. They kept everything running smoothly, made sure everyone stayed hydrated, and welcomed every guest with warm smiles. Their positive attitudes, dedication, and willingness to help wherever needed were truly appreciated. Thank you both for everything you did to make the day such a success.
A sincere thank you of course goes to our incredible performers who brought the spirit of Switzerland to life throughout the day. The beautiful voices of Yodelclub Heimattreu filled the hall with the familiar sounds of Swiss tradition, creating moments that many of us will cherish. We were equally grateful to Bob Scherle, whose wonderful performance kept the celebration lively and entertaining. One of the highlights of the afternoon was undoubtedly the Trachten Fashion Show. Seeing the beautiful traditional Swiss attire, each representing different regions and generations of Swiss culture, was truly a sight to behold. We absolutely adored the fashion show and are so grateful to everyone who proudly showcased our heritage.
And, of course, we can't forget the powerful sounds of the alphorns. There is something truly special about hearing those magnificent instruments echo through the hall. It gives me chills every single time.
Thank you to all of our performers and participants for sharing your talents and helping make this year's Swiss National Day celebration so memorable.
To everyone who attended, volunteered, donated silent auction and tombola items, purchased raffle tickets, or simply came to celebrate with us—thank you. Every conversation shared, every laugh, every helping hand, and every tradition celebrated helped create a day that we will remember for years to come.
Our Swiss National Day celebration is a reminder that while many of us now call Canada home, our Swiss heritage continues to connect us across generations and across oceans. It lives on in our traditions, our friendships, and in the community we continue to build together.
Thank you for being part of this incredible Swiss family. We are grateful for each and every one of you, and we can't wait to celebrate together again soon.
With sincere gratitude,
