Safer Together has officially passed at Calgary City Council by a 10–4 vote.

This is an important step forward for a vision of community safety rooted in prevention, mental health supports, housing, belonging, and community wellbeing.

Thank you to everyone who attended listening sessions, shared stories, spoke at hearings, sent letters and emails, and helped advocate for a more caring and inclusive Calgary.

We also want to thank Mayor Jeromy Farkas and Councillors Atkinson, Chabot, Clark, Dhaliwal, Kelly, Pantazopoulos, Schmidt, Wyness, and Yule for supporting Safer Together and helping move this plan forward.

This victory belongs to the many community members and organizations who came together to build the common good. There is still more work ahead, but today we celebrate what we can accomplish when we organize together.

Raising Money, Raising Good Work: Fundraising Training For Individual Donor Campaigns

Money is a key ingredient towards turning the dreams and potential of your non-profit, synagogue, mosque, church, and this Alliance into a flourishing reality.

There is much good work to be done in our city and our organizations that requires money. Often, we hear the message that there is not enough money out there to create the good we want to see, but this is a flawed message. The funding is out there, as are individuals willing to contribute to support work that builds the world they want to be a part of. What we often lack is the skill and confidence to ask.

If you're interested in learning how to apply principles of community organizing to the process of raising money for your organization or for the Calgary Alliance’s fundraising campaign, this training is for you. It is intended both for leaders who want to participate in this campaign and for leaders from our member organizations who want to learn how to raise money to support the mission of their organizations.

This training is based on the work of the James Company - a fundraising company developed by a former community organizer, which has used the lessons and practices of community organizing to raise over $1 billion for charities.

Free for all Calgary Alliance for the Common Good Members.

Thank you to everyone who showed up at Calgary City Hall today with the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good Mental Health Team. 💚

Over the past months, Alliance members have listened deeply to stories from people facing mental health challenges, housing instability, isolation, addiction, and growing pressure on community services. Today, those voices were carried into City Council.

By showing up together in green scarves, shawls, and clothing, we showed that Calgarians believe community wellbeing and mental health are essential to a safer city and the common good of all.

Grateful to every Alliance leader, member, friend, family member, and supporter who stood with us today. This work matters because people showed up for each other.

Day 1 of Foundations of Community Organizing: Institutional and Local Organizing brought together leaders and community members from different institutions to reflect on leadership, relationships, power, and the role our organizations can play in creating meaningful change.
Today’s conversations focused on how community organizing can help us:
build stronger relationships and institutions,
understand power and public life,
identify and develop leaders,
strengthen listening,
and turn shared concerns into collective action.
It was also a space for sharing stories, about our communities, our experiences, and moments when we confronted power and discovered the importance of organized action.
Thank you to everyone who participated with openness, energy, and thoughtful discussion, and special thanks to St. Stephen's Anglican Church for hosting us.
We look forward to continuing the workshop tomorrow.

Today, members of the Mental Health team at Calgary Alliance for the Common Good are speaking before Calgary City Council to share the priorities, challenges, and solutions raised through our recent Mental Health Listening Sessions.
Community members spoke about the growing mental health challenges facing families, youth, and vulnerable residents across our city, and about the urgent need for accessible, community-rooted supports.
We are grateful to everyone who shared their stories, experiences, and hopes for a healthier and more compassionate Calgary. Your voices matter, and today they are being heard at City Hall.
