Immigration is often blamed for inflation, housing costs and job shortages, but repeating a claim does not make it a fact.

The evidence tells a more complete story. Newcomers contribute to Alberta’s economy, fill essential labour shortages, pay taxes and start businesses. They also face the same rising costs as everyone else, along with barriers such as unemployment and the lack of recognition for international credentials.

Housing affordability and economic pressure are real concerns. Addressing them requires honest conversations, evidence-based policies and solutions that bring people together, not narratives that make our neighbours the problem.

Swipe through to explore some common claims about immigration and what the evidence actually tells us.

Facts matter. So does how we treat one another.

What defines a healthy community? Rabbi Mark Glickman, spiritual leader of Temple B’nai Tikvah, reminds us that it is how we treat those who are vulnerable, those who are new, and those who may feel like outsiders.
Compassion, dignity, and care for one another are not weaknesses—they are at the heart of the common good.
As Alberta prepares to vote in the October 19 referendum, let’s choose belonging over division and solidarity over scapegoating.
Vote for Canada. Vote for the Common Good.

New opinion piece in the Calgary Herald

Jennifer Garrison, Chair of Strategy for the Calgary Alliance for the Common Good, has published a new opinion article in the Calgary Herald exploring why Alberta’s future is strongest when it is rooted in the common good, shared responsibility, and belonging—not division.

As Alberta prepares for the October referendum, this article offers a thoughtful perspective on the values that bring us together and why so many Albertans are choosing to vote No.

🥞 Pancakes for the Common Good

The Calgary Stampede is about more than pancakes and celebrations. It’s one of the best times of the year to meet elected officials, community leaders, neighbours, and organizations from across Alberta.

A simple conversation over breakfast can help build relationships, share stories, and strengthen our communities.

To help you make the most of Stampede season, we’ve created Pancakes for the Common Good, including:

📅 A growing calendar of Stampede breakfasts where elected representatives are likely to attend.
💬 A Conversation Guide with practical tips and questions.
❤️ A place to share your experience and what you learned.

Hosting a Stampede Breakfast through your organization? Or know of an event where elected officials will be attending that isn’t on our list? Let us know so we can add it and help more people connect.

This Stampede, let’s celebrate our city, and use every conversation to build the common good.

🔗 Visit the campaign page on www.calgarycommongood.org to explore the breakfast calendar, download the Conversation Guide, and share your story.
