PechaKucha Night Calgary 20 images X 20 seconds. One awesome night of inspiring speakers. 20 seconds X 20 slides. One awesome night. What is PechaKucha? Why this format you ask?
(1)

PechaKucha is a global series of live events held worldwide where people can meet, inspire and get inspired, based on a format that is fast-paced and fun. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for “the sound of chit chat”, Pecha Kucha Night was devised by Tokyo’s Klein Dytham Architecture in February 2003 as a venue for young designers to meet, network, exchange ideas and discuss their work in public. It rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds, for a total presentation length of six minutes and 40 seconds. It keeps presentations concise, fast-paced and entertaining. PechaKucha Night Calgary is an Alberta registered not-for-profit organization. Devised, Shared & Supported by Klein Dytham Architecture

Harry Sanders was a member of the PechaKucha Night Calgary committee for many years. We are deeply heartbroken that he has passed away. He was constantly a font of speaker suggestions and little known facts about the most seemingly minor and hidden histories of Calgary. He was endlessly interesting and surprising. He taught us about ourselves and our city. Filming these "Harry and the Half-Talk" segments during our digital pandemic PechaKucha series remain some of our favourite memories as a committee.

Harry, we miss you.

“...honestly being at the film festival changed my career. It changed my trajectory. Because before, I didn’t think that an Asian kid from Calgary could be on the big screen, could make art as a living, could be on television, and this Film Festival changed my mind. It made me believe I could do it.”
