Philosophia welcomes all people, regardless of previous knowledge of philosophy, to engage in lively discussion and participate in a variety of events. We are most well-known for our Philosobeers events, where we all get together to enjoy a beverage of choice (doesn't have to be beer!) and talk about a predetermined philosophical idea, figure, or area of interest. These events welcome everyone, es
pecially if you don't have any previous knowledge, to contribute to a lively, beginner-friendly dialogue. Previous topics we've had include "Is a hot dog a sandwich?", "Tinder and Love", and "Culture: What is it? We also offer a number of events and services pertaining mostly to Philosophy students. One of these is our Writing Workshop, where we bring in professors and graduate students from the philosophy department to give short presentations on how to write philosophy papers and answer questions from the audience. This event provides a unique opportunity to learn what to do for your papers by the people who grade them! Annually, we host a Careers in Philosophy Panel, where we invite people from various fields who hold philosophy degrees to come speak about their career paths, experiences finding jobs with their degrees, and how they use philosophy in their jobs. This event is great for both people who are considering a philosophy as a major or minor, as well as philosophy students nearing graduation. In addition, we offer a Paper Rescue Service to students in philosophy classes. If you're really stumped on a particular assignment or just need a second set of eyes, please send us a draft of your paper at least 1 week in advance, but if you're really struggling, we can try and accommodate you up to 48 hours beforehand.
