Happy Tuesday, Friends! The WCA Pop-up Pantry is once again open today at 5:30pm in the Market Hall (west entrance). Please dress APPROPRIATELY for the weather and avoid arriving early. The order of access is as follows:
1. Whitehorn Residents with a WCA Membership
2. Outside residents with a WCA Membership
3. All other visitors via random number.

This system is in place to ensure our "one person per household" policy is better maintained as well as ensuring fair access to Whitehorn residents. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our best to help everyone we can.

Please also remember sharing is caring. Take what you need but leave enough for others. Donations are not expected, but gratefully accepted. These funds go directly to supporting the pantry by covering fuel for our volunteer drivers and adding to bulk food purchases. Every donation, small or large, is appreciated.

Please park in North Lot off of Whiteridge Way NE and enter through the west doors facing the ice rink and community garden.

Friends, an important reminder as we enter construction season - construction speed zones are always in effect when signage is up. Doesn't matter if workers are present or not; if the signs are up, you better be at or under the reduced speed limit. I don't know about you, but I definitely don't have a spare $1000+ to be wasting on speeding fines 🤯 Please be mindful of our road workers and drive safely and responsibly.

On Monday, May 25, 2026, at 10:50 a.m., a driver on Deerfoot Trail & Anderson Road was clocked going 91 km/h in a 50 km/h construction zone where workers were present.

🔴 The driver was given a $1,134 ticket.

⚠️ Construction zones are in place to protect workers & drivers. Reduced speed limits are enforced at all times, regardless of the time of day or worker presence.

🚨 🚨 The Bow and Elbow rivers are above safe levels, and the Calgary Fire Department has issued a boating advisory that is now in effect. Please stay off the river for your safety and for emergency responders.

High, fast-moving water, cold temperatures, and debris are creating dangerous conditions, with poor visibility making hazards harder to spot. Pathway and underpass closures along the Bow and Elbow Rivers are expected to begin this weekend.

Visit calgary.ca/watersafety for more information as well as calgary.ca/flood for the latest information on river conditions.

Visit calgary.ca/pathwayclosures for up-to-date information on pathway closures.

🧹 Street sweeping is underway across Calgary and will be in Whitehorn tomorrow, May 29.
🚫 The parking ban covers the full posted time window: typically 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays)
👮 Calgary Parking enforces parking bans: vehicles left on streets with a parking ban after 8 a.m. are subject to ticketing and towing, no exceptions.

Does your street still need to be swept? Look up your address at calgary.ca/sweep to see exactly when your street is scheduled and sign up for email or text alerts so you're never caught off guard.

Yesterday, Calgary City Council voted to pass the Safer Together Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan and to keep the Free Fare Zone until January 2027.

VCC welcomes Council's decision on Safer Together. The Safer Together plan reflects the important principles that long-term community safety depends on upstream prevention and action on root causes, and not only on emergency response and enforcement. VCC looks forward to working further with the City to advance our shared goals, and thanks the Mayor and Council for their leadership.

Calgary's Free Fare Zone is an important driver of community vibrancy and social connection. VCC welcomes yesterday's decision, as eliminating the Free Fare Zone would likely disproportionately affect Calgarians living in poverty. VCC supports the continuation of the Free Fare Zone and the expansion of deeply affordable transit for all Calgarians.

Please please leave the baby bunnies alone. They have not been abandoned. Mama will come back for them, honest 😉

Please please leave the baby bunnies alone. They have not been abandoned. Mama will come back for them, honest 😉

Spring = baby bunnies! 🐰🌱

Baby rabbits are adorable—but if you spot one on its own, it usually doesn’t need help. Mom is likely nearby and only visits a few times a day.

Here’s how to help them stay safe:

👀 Look, don’t touch

Observe from a distance. Baby rabbits rely on staying still and hidden to avoid predators.

🐶🐱 Keep pets away

Leash dogs and keep cats supervised—curious pets can easily injure baby rabbits.

📞 Call an expert if needed

If a bunny looks injured or in immediate danger, contact Alberta Fish and Wildlife or a local rehab centre for guidance.

⛑️ Only intervene if it’s urgent

If there’s immediate danger, you can gently move the bunny a short distance to safety; but stay nearby and call for advice.

💬 Spread the word

Most baby rabbits are not abandoned; leaving them where they are gives them the best chance to survive.
