Join us for a timely discussion on one of the worldโs most critical geopolitical chokepoints: The Strait of Hormuz. In this talk, Greg Walker will explore how recent conflict has triggered the most significant disruption to global energy supply since the 1970s, and what it means for trade, markets, and global stability.
With a career spanning major energy projects across the globe, Greg brings firsthand insight into the intersection of geopolitics and energy systems. As tensions escalate, this conversation will unpack the real-world consequences of instability in the Gulf and why it matters far beyond the region.
Greg Walker has had an extensive international career in the energy sector, working across Australia, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Spain, Trinidad, the UK, and Vietnam. He holds a PhD from Cambridge University, where his research focused on fluid dynamics in fractures related to magma movement. His career has also included work in nuclear energy and fusion research in the UK. Most recently, he worked with Repsol in Spain, managing international teams and advancing research in machine learning for data integration. Greg is now retired.
Drawing on this deep experience, Greg will examine the disruptions and global trade impacts resulting from the ongoing conflict with Iran and the effective closure of the Strait.
