A longtime wildlife photographer has "seen some sharks doing some really wild things" โ€“ but nothing prepared him for capturing what's believed to be the first-ever images of a live newborn great white shark.

How many species of sharks are there?

There are currently over 500 known species of sharks, ranging from the iconic great white to the elusive deep-sea lantern sharks. Protecting these fascinating creatures is of paramount importance for various reasons:

๐Ÿฆˆ Ecological Balance: Sharks play a crucial role in marine ecosystems, helping to control the population of prey species preventing overpopulation of certain marine species that could otherwise disrupt the entire ecosystem.

๐Ÿฆˆ Coral Reef Health: Some shark species indirectly support coral reefs by regulating the populations of herbivorous fish. When herbivorous fish numbers are kept in check, coral reefs flourish.

๐Ÿฆˆ Biodiversity: Sharks contribute to marine biodiversity, enriching our oceans with their unique adaptations and behaviours.

๐Ÿฆˆ Scientific Discoveries: Sharks have unique physiological features, such as their immune system's potential to combat diseases. Studying these traits can lead to valuable medical advancements and technological innovations.

๐Ÿฆˆ Climate Regulation: Healthy shark populations contribute to the regulation of carbon dioxide levels in the ocean through the "trophic cascade" effect. This process involves maintaining the balance of marine life, which ultimately affects carbon storage in the oceans and helps mitigate climate change.

Protecting sharks is essential to maintain ecological harmony, preserving biodiversity, support local economies, advance scientific research, regulate climate, and fulfil our ethical obligations as custodians of the Earth.

While most sharks are solo hunters, blacktip reef sharks believe in teamwork! You'll often find them hanging out together and relying on one another to catch prey in packs. When they find a school of fish, they'll circle their prey into a tight ball before going in for the kill. Some researchers even found that they may actually be social creatures with close friends ... talk about a shark party! ๐Ÿฆˆ

Watch divers save whale sharks from fishing nets in Indonesia.

Thanks to the work and heroism of a few divers, the whale sharks that were trapped in these fishing nets will get to live another day! This action is not only admirable, but needed now more than ever.

Many sharks end up as bycatch in fishing nets - meaning they were not the intended target - and lose their lives. We must push for greater restrictions for fishing tools used in countries like Indonesia to avoid shark bycatch.

This has got to โ˜ ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธF*CKING STOPโ€ผ๏ธโ˜ ๏ธ โ€ฆ Alabama is ranked in the top 5 least educated States in the USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธโ€ฆ clearly the lack of education is fueling these horrific & senseless murdersโ€ฆ clearly education is the key to coexistence & the only way to put an end to these massacresโ€ฆ
โŒโš ๏ธโ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ†˜๐Ÿฆˆ๐Ÿ†˜โ˜ ๏ธโš ๏ธโŒโ€ฆ โš ๏ธGRAPHIC WARNING: Last weekend, July 21-23, the 90th Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo took place in Dauphin Island, Alabama, USA where many sharks, Bulls and Tigers, were slaughtered to death in the name of nothing but entertainment.

Anglers competed in this event to catch the biggest Tiger Shark or Bull Shark possible and then simply throw them away as a piece of garbage.

The event was supported by , as well as the university and the who were there to supposedly take samples for scientific research.

Until now, we havenโ€™t been able to find any infos on these potential researches and even if some parts of the sharks were used for research, they could have easily get samples from commercial fisheries instead of allowing and giving legitimacy to such barbaric slaughter to happen.

Hanging dead sharks under an American flag has nothing to do with scienceโ€ฆ

This event was purely made to allow a small privileged community of people to have fun killing highly fragile species, species of sharks that are vital to the survival of ocean ecosystems and that are listed as Vulnerable of extinction and Near Threatened by the IUCN.

These people and authorities allowing it happen are threatening the survival of the oceans for their own entertainment which canโ€™t be acceptable.

Please tag , , and to let them know that THIS MUST STOP !!!
