Transforming Lives Through Rotary Collaboration
The Rotary Club of Calgary Heritage Park paired up with the Rotary Club of Calgary, along with support from the through Rotary Helps YYC, is proud to have helped make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable youth and families in our community.
A recent note from Samantha Pownall at The Mustard Seed's Health and Wellness Centre reminded us why this work matters.
She shared the story of a single mother who came seeking help for her teenage daughter. After years of struggling in school, falling behind academically, and waiting unsuccessfully for a psychoeducational assessment through the school system, the young woman lost confidence in herself, withdrew socially, and eventually left school. Financial barriers made private assessments impossible for the family.
During her intake at The Mustard Seed, the mother learned that, thanks to funding provided by Rotary Helps YYC, her daughter could receive a pediatric psychological assessment at no cost and begin accessing the supports she needs. Overwhelmed with relief, she expressed heartfelt gratitude knowing her daughter could finally move forward.
Through a contribution to this program, Rotary has helped ensure that vulnerable children and youth who might otherwise fall through the cracks can access timely assessments and the support they deserve.
This is what Service Above Self looks like: neighbours helping neighbours, working together to create opportunities, restore hope, and help young people reach their full potential.
