Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility, a day dedicated to celebrating transgender people, their contributions to society and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide.

Transphobic sentiments continue to escalate among the far-right in Canada. In the United States and United Kingdom, bills and laws are being issued that target transgender civil rights, threatening lives and communities. Transgender Day of Visibility is a day to combat the hate, to uplift and celebrate the trans community, and advance awareness about the challenges they face.

The Junior League of Calgary welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations and communities.

Our Guest Speaker this month is Alice Lam. Alice's career and passion has centered around the importance of community service and doing her part to build a city for all to enjoy. Her passion is helping people feel a sense of belonging, pride in their city, and the ability for them to contribute in a way that we can all benefit from. She spends her free time volunteering for various causes, sits on several non-profit boards, and has founded multiple projects throughout our community.

While last year (Year of the Snake) was about shedding what no longer serves a purpose, the Year of the Horse is believed to be about galloping into the new and taking bold action.

The horse is known for its energetic and dynamic nature. It symbolizes speed, perseverance and vitality. People born in the Year of the Horse are believed to possess similar traits, such as being hardworking, warm-hearted, and independent.
