ABUSE IS ABUSE.

Although it is easy to ignore cruel words 'said in jest', manipulative maneuvers done 'without thinking', apologies cloaking them pushing past hurtful deeds etc. abuse from friends and family members is as real and prevalent as when the perpetrator is your intimate
partner.

Often when it comes from those in our family and friend groups, seeing the motive is even harder because our instinct is to trust those you feel have no reason but to have your best interest at heart.
The problem is:

1. There are abusers everywhere and they tend to abuse everyone around them who they can gain power over.
2. Sometimes, due to family and friend cultures, they don't even realize they are being abusive.

You can help protect yourself by learning to check in and ask yourself one simple question.

-Did that interaction feel good, or not.

If you realize you are around someone who is not making you feel good, speak up.
Ask for help or if you feel safe to do so, speak to them about how they are making you feel.
If they don't mean to and actually have your best interest at heart, they wont want to hurt you and the behaviour will cease.

If they show a lack of care, believe them and remove yourself or ask for help planning how to remove yourself if you feel there is potential for danger.

Remember, abuse is abuse.
It has many faces and must be taken seriously at all times.

Thank you so much to our incredible friends at CPC Elevate!

These wonderful women continue to stick by GEMS through thick and thin.

Thank you so much ladies!

8 years ago this incredible woman was taken from her loving family at the hands of someone who could not handle her not being his.

We met the El- Dib family about a month after and the bond was formed quickly.

The Gems board of directors decided to name our first scholarship in memory of Nadia El-Dib.

It was gifted to Danielle McMahon who has proudly spoken of the origins of her opportunity at a new life and the honour of being connected to Nadia and her family for life.

Danielle attended The Esthetic Institute Training Center , grew her business BARE by Pink Peach and has now hired her second employee!

Over the years Racha El-Dib joined our ambassador team, co hosted events with Gems, her father Sami Eldib also became a Gems Ambassador and we have loved and supported each-other.

Nadia will forever be missed.

Nadia will forever be remembered.

Nadia will always be honored by Gems, Danielle and all those who support the scholarship program and are touched by it.

To the El-Dibs. We love you. We mourn with you.
