ABUSE IS ABUSE.
Although it is easy to ignore cruel words 'said in jest', manipulative maneuvers done 'without thinking', apologies cloaking them pushing past hurtful deeds etc. abuse from friends and family members is as real and prevalent as when the perpetrator is your intimate
partner.
Often when it comes from those in our family and friend groups, seeing the motive is even harder because our instinct is to trust those you feel have no reason but to have your best interest at heart.
The problem is:
1. There are abusers everywhere and they tend to abuse everyone around them who they can gain power over.
2. Sometimes, due to family and friend cultures, they don't even realize they are being abusive.
You can help protect yourself by learning to check in and ask yourself one simple question.
-Did that interaction feel good, or not.
If you realize you are around someone who is not making you feel good, speak up.
Ask for help or if you feel safe to do so, speak to them about how they are making you feel.
If they don't mean to and actually have your best interest at heart, they wont want to hurt you and the behaviour will cease.
If they show a lack of care, believe them and remove yourself or ask for help planning how to remove yourself if you feel there is potential for danger.
Remember, abuse is abuse.
It has many faces and must be taken seriously at all times.
