Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
Whereas:

Gender affirming care is a form of life saving and evidence-based healthcare;

The Government of Alberta has limited who can have reasonable access to healthcare through Bill 26;

The Canada Health Act states that “eligible residents of Canada must have reasonable access to required health services”;

The Canadian Medical Association has stated this legislation is an unprecedented intrusion into the physician’s ability to follow clinical guidelines, and the needs of patients;

It is up to patients and their healthcare provider to decide what care they require;

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms upholds the right of residents of Canada to Section 2a (the right to freedom of conscience in medical practice), Section 7 (the right to life, liberty and security of the person), Section 12 (the right to be free from cruel and unusual treatment), and Section 15 (equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination);
The denial of gender affirming care can lead to profound consequences on the psychological welfare of youth, which can result in suicidal ideation or su***de;
and
Our leaders should be encouraging youth to receive healthcare as advised by their healthcare providers, rather than undermining it.

We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to ensure all eligible residents of Canada can access required healthcare, including gender affirming healthcare, as outlined in the Canada Health Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

It is with immense hope we have learned that Anna Murphy is still with us.
She is currently in critical condition but receiving care.
It is moments like these that sharply remind us of the fight we are in and what is at stake.
We must continue to fight for each other and radically love this community and each other.
Please send all of your love, admiration, and care to Anna through posts, messages, and support in the hope she will recover and return to us.
Anna, you are loved, admired, and respected. We send our love to you in hopes we will see you again soon.

Global Edmonton CBC Edmonton Citytv CTV Edmonton Pride Edmonton I've received a copy of a letter that went out to CSU 52 members (City and related employees). EPL has instructed staff to remove all Pride flags from work areas. Letter is below:

Statement Re: EPL Directive to Remove Pride Flags from Public Areas

The Edmonton Public Library (EPL) has recently directed staff to remove Pride flags displayed in public areas within their workplace. CSU 52 recognizes that this censorship negatively impacts staff who are part of or allies to the LGBTQ2S+ community—as well LGBTQ2S+ patrons who visit the library—and believes this to be a significant step backwards in EPL's work towards enhancing accessibility and inclusion. CSU 52 is firmly of the belief that symbols of LGBTQ2S+ allyship should not be restricted at members' workplaces.

EPL's 2024-2026 Strategic Goals & Business Plan notes that "EPL is dedicated to identifying ways to make our physical and digital spaces inviting and welcoming, fostering a sense of belonging for all." Pride flags and decals displayed in storefronts and other public places are universally understood to signify that the business is inclusive and welcoming to the LGBTQ2S+ community. They serve as beacons of support and to let people who are amongst the most traditionally underrepresented and historically oppressed know that they will be treated with dignity and respect, and that discrimination and bigotry will not be tolerated.

EPL has long been viewed as a progressive, inclusive, and welcoming institution, and CSU 52 members are the heart of the innovative and compassionate services the library provides to all Edmontonians. Prohibiting the display of Pride flags within the library calls into question EPL's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion—particularly in a sociopolitical climate that has been fraught with attacks on the rights of the LGBTQ2S+ community. Now, more than ever, it is critical that community- and youth-serving organizations such as EPL step up and visibly enhance their support of marginalized communities—not retract it.

I, along with every member of CSU 52's Board of Directors, are calling on EPL and their Board of Trustees to reconsider this approach to the display of Pride flags. We are further calling on City Council to consider whether this approach, in one of Edmonton's most prized public institutions, is in alignment with the City's stated commitment to stand by the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion policies amid the current sociopolitical climate at home and around the world.

We, the Q***r Community, Call for the Immediate Resignation of Premier Danielle Smith
and Health Minister Adriana LaGrange.
We, the q***r community of Alberta, demand the immediate resignation of Premier Danielle
Smith, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange, and all officials complicit in the corruption, cruelty,
and systemic failures that have defined their government. This administration has repeatedly
targeted marginalized communities, dismantled public healthcare, and undermined democracy
while enriching their political allies at the expense of the people they were elected to serve. Their leadership has been marked by scandal, dishonesty, and policies that actively harm Albertans. It is time for them to step down.

A Deliberate Attack on Transgender Youth and Families
The UCP’s targeted assault on transgender youth is both unconscionable and dangerous. Their policies strip parents of the ability to make informed medical decisions for their own children while cutting access to life-saving healthcare for trans youth. The impact of these policies is devastating. 65% of transgender youth aged 14 to 18 have seriously considered su***de, compared to 13% of the general adolescent population. Instead of supporting the most vulnerable, this government has fueled a crisis, forcing families into impossible situations and denying children the ability to grow up in safety and dignity.

Undermining Public Education
The attacks on transgender youth extend beyond healthcare and into Alberta’s education system.
The UCP has slashed public education funding, increased class sizes, and promoted policies that put students at risk. They have prioritized ideological battles over the needs of students and teachers, leaving Alberta’s education system weaker and more divided. Schools should be places of learning, support, and safety—not political battlegrounds.

Corruption and Election Interference
This government has repeatedly demonstrated that it cannot win on merit, resorting instead to
manipulation and misconduct. Elections Alberta recently fined Take Back Alberta over $112,000
for election interference, exposing the deep connections between the UCP and a political
machine willing to break the law to hold onto power. These fines prove what many already
knew: the UCP does not operate within the bounds of democracy but rather seeks to rig the
system in its favor. Albertans deserve fair elections, not backroom deals and illicit influence.

Economic Mismanagement and the Betrayal of Albertans
The UCP promised economic prosperity but has delivered the opposite. Alberta now has the
slowest economic growth in the country, with businesses hesitant to invest in a province
governed by instability and incompetence. Corporate tax cuts meant to stimulate job creation have only widened income inequality, while working-class Albertans struggle with rising costs and stagnant wages. Instead of building a strong, sustainable economy, the UCP has prioritized short-term gains for their donors at the expense of everyday people.

The Healthcare Scandal: Putting Profits Over Patients
The final, undeniable proof of the UCP’s corruption lies in the ongoing healthcare scandal.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) was thrown into turmoil when former CEO Athana
Mentzelopoulos was fired after initiating an internal investigation into corrupt contracts. These contracts funneled public healthcare funds into for-profit surgical operators with direct ties to UCP insiders. Meanwhile, cancer patients are waiting longer for treatment, rural hospitals are closing, and doctors are leaving the province in record numbers. This is not leadership—it is a betrayal of public trust.

Danielle Smith Is a Traitor to Alberta’s Democracy
At a time when the greatest threat to Canadian democracy is the rise of far-right extremism and
foreign political interference from the United States, Danielle Smith has openly aligned herself
with anti-democratic forces. She has echoed talking points from American far-right groups,
sought influence from extremist political figures, and undermined the fundamental principles of
Canadian governance. Instead of standing up for Alberta and Canada, she has positioned herself
as a puppet for those who seek to erode our rights, our freedoms, and our democratic institutions.
Danielle Smith is not just failing Albertans—she is betraying them.

Albertans Deserve Better—Resign Immediately
We demand the immediate resignation of Premier Danielle Smith, Health Minister Adriana
LaGrange, and all officials and staff members of the UCP implicated in these scandals. Their
government has failed the people of Alberta through corruption, mismanagement, and attacks on human rights. We also call for an independent investigation by the RCMP into their actions and policies to hold them accountable for the harm they have caused.

Albertans deserve leadership that prioritizes public well-being over political self-interest. The
UCP has proven they are incapable of providing that leadership. The time has come for them to
step aside and face the consequences of their actions.

Signed,
Q***r Citizens United
