🧶 💕 Do you love knitting/crotcheting/sewing and quietly building community? We're looking for a volunteer to lead our weekly knitting/fibre circles at the Alexandra Centre. ✨

We have a wonderful group gathering in the Rose Room every Monday, 1-4 pm, to make pink hats for a September early literacy rally. As a volunteer leader, we're hoping you can help guide the group in simple closing tasks:

💡lights and fans turned off
🪑tables and chairs returned to original storage space
🚪 door is closed

🧶Are you a knitter or would you like to learn? Are you someone who cares about the reading lives of children? Join us Family Literacy Day (Jan. 27) for Left Unread’s first Pink Hat Knit-along! 💖📖

This project is inspired by the picture book ‘The Pink Hat,’ which closes with an uplifting march of neighbours in pink hats. Pink is the colour of Left Unread, a movement that champions each child’s along with local organizations. 💞

To gather hundreds of pink toques for a rally next fall, we’re uniting early literacy supporters and knitters of all levels at weekly knit-alongs!

💞📖💞It’s just a book you can’t read…or is it? When the Left Unread movement launched at the almost two years ago, we placed books like these—glued closed— throughout the sale to raise awareness about the need for early literacy action.

Recently, some of these books got another chance to inspire people to care about the reading lives of children as they were ‘adopted’ into the library! 💖

Interact Club co-president Lucy Choi recently wrote us:

‘’Our club members have shared how surprised and shocked they were to learn about the serious literacy issues that surround us. As the Interact Club, we are currently planning volunteer opportunities at the Big Book Sale and initiating fundraising activities at our school to support children’s literacy.

Thank you so much for the inspiration you bring, positively influencing our school environment.’’
