The weekly farmer’s market with Broxburn Vegetables resumes for the season next month at Foothills Mennonite Church in our community.

The market, a collaboration with the City of Calgary, was supposed to start THIS THURSDAY. However, due to some administrative delays, the launch has been pushed back for several weeks.

The time has changed from mornings to the new afternoon hours of 3-6 pm; otherwise it’s the same market that has been serving our community for close to five years.

We’ll update you here when the final start date is announced.

Get ready for our annual Neighbour Day festivities including our annual BBQ and Soccer Wind-up later next month.

This popular event is well worth adding to your calendar on Saturday, June 20th. It runs from 11 am until 2 pm and we’ve put in a word with Mother Nature for good weather.

The UHCA will provide all food and drinks along with 2 bounce houses (one intended for the smaller kids & one for the older kids) and other, family-friendly activities.

The BBQ will be held near the playground behind University School.

We are always looking for help with even set-up and take-down. If you can help, please email [email protected]

Today we are happy to report that the PipeDiver assessment of the steel portion of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main was a success.

The PipeDiver test was conducted earlier this week without issue, after which the robot and recovery net were retrieved from the pipe.

We expect to receive the results of the PipeDiver assessment in approximately one month, which will be used to inform future plans.

Good advice to help keep pedestrians and motorists safe! 🚙 🚲

Did you know? In Calgary, people on foot have the right of way at both marked and unmarked crosswalks.

Not all drivers know this. Not all people crossing know their rights either. Knowing the rules is just the start. Now here's what you can do to stay safe when crossing:

🚗👀 Drivers: Scan ahead and slow down before you reach an intersection. Do not assume the person sees you.

🚶‍♀️‍➡️👀 People crossing the street: Make eye contact and make sure drivers have stopped before you step out. Do not assume you have been seen.

Safety at every crosswalk is a shared responsibility.

RESCHEDULED - Area residents are encouraged to participate in community ideation sessions later this summer to help shape Ward 7’s future based on our real experiences, needs and aspirations.

A joint ideation session had been scheduled for June 11 from 7 pm to 9 pm at the St Andrews Heights Community Association hall. However, due to a city hall scheduling conflict, this event has been deferred until later this summer. We’ll post an update when a new date is selected.

We're excited to share plans about our community ideation sessions starting in early May. We are hosting community ideation sessions at eight Ward 7 Community Associations to help gather community input on ways you want to see your communities shaped over the next four years. We are going to gather feedback with topic bulletin boards, area maps, and dot charts to understand the desires of community members in key regions of the Ward.

What Is It?
Community Ideation Sessions are interactive, in‑person gatherings where residents can share what matters most to them in their neighbourhoods. Participants will be invited to contribute through topic bulletin boards, neighbourhood maps, dot‑voting charts, and sticky-notes galore, creating a democratic and accessible way for everyone to be heard.
The sessions will be held across eight regions of Ward 7, ensuring voices from diverse communities are reflected in future planning and decision‑making.

Who Is It For?
These sessions are open to all Ward 7 residents, including:
🏠Long‑time community members and newcomers
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Youth, families, seniors, and local business owners
🚌Anyone who lives, works, or volunteers in Ward 7
🌻No prior experience or preparation is needed—just a willingness to share your perspective.

Why Should Residents Attend?
Community input plays a vital role in shaping advocacy, priorities, and investments at City Hall. By attending a Community Ideation Session, residents have a direct opportunity to:
🗨️Connect with neighbours and strengthen community relationships
💬Share ideas about what they want to see more of (or less of) in their community
💪Identify local challenges and opportunities
🏛️Influence priorities that will help guide Ward 7’s work over the next four years

We are finalizing details on a few of these sessions, but if you express your interest through an RSVP or via email to us we will update you as soon as we know more details. Please follow the event links for more information and to express your interest.

We are so grateful for our community volunteers!

Canadians aged 55 and over were less likely than younger Canadians to volunteer for a charity or non-profit organization, but those who did gave more hours.
