14 Ave N Bridge over 14 St W Construction Update

From the project Manager:

"Hope you are doing great. The 14 Avenue over 14 Street NW bridge rehabilitation project has been progressing well, with work on the southern half of the bridge nearing completion. At the end of June, traffic accommodation will be reconfigured to allow the contractor to begin work on the northern half of the bridge.

The traffic accommodation “flip over” is currently scheduled for June 30th.

HHBH CA June Let's Talk: The Value of Casual Connections

Hi everyone,

Next Tuesday, June 9, is our next ‘Let’s talk …’ gathering. I’m pitching the idea of the power of casual connections. Whether this is the letter carrier, the doggie walkers who show up like clockwork starting at 7:45 AM on my street, the kiddie parade on the way to school as they pass by my East window and ‘check’ to see if I am looking for them, or the Saturday coffee barista who knows my name, these connections or ‘weak ties,’ give rhythm, pattern, and the warmth of a friendly connection. They provide an anchor in the world and a sense of community. They are enormously important to our well bring!

Mark Granovetter wrote about the importance of these ties and coined the term ‘weak ties.’

And you never know when this connection could be a game changer … someone notices something is ‘not right’ and follows through.

Map out the connections you have and bring them on Tuesday to share.

I hope to see you then!

Let’s talk … May 12, 2026

Our monthly ‘Let’s talk …’ session is on for next Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Our topic will be ‘setting goals’. Setting goals provides focus and direction in life, keeps us motivated and gives us a sense of self mastery. You can track progress, and when you have reached a goal you have set for yourself, you get to celebrate!

Our goals can be as simple as getting more exercise and becoming fit; or as lofty and ambitious as Malala Yousafzai’s fight for girls’ education in Pakistan. Her efforts were recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize (2014).

Join us next Tuesday in the HHBH Community Hall for a conversation about the importance of setting goals and ways of staying ‘on track’. These can be stories of personal goals, or public and farther-reaching goals that we can learn from.

Doors open at 1:30. We’ll start at 2:00.

Update from the HHBH CPS Community Resource Officer

There has been a spike in a crime trend in Calgary. In the last 60 days, there has been a significant increase in Catalytic converters thefts.

In District 3 alone, at least 28 reported incidents have occurred. However, it’s believed there are more reported incidents which are waiting to be uploaded into the crime data analysis.

The CPS crime analyst identified HH/BH and St. Andrew Heights (west of parking lot McMahan) stadium as hot spots for this crime.

Community members are encouraged to report suspicious activity and report any incidents online.

Most vehicle crime are crimes of opportunity. These crimes can happen anywhere, even in safe neighbourhoods. There are steps you can take to protect your vehicle and belongings.

The City is restoring the bridge over 14 Street N.W. by reconfiguring the existing four traffic lanes to three lanes, widening the pathways with new railings, and upgrading streetlighting.

Construction will be completed in stages on one side of the bridge at a time to maintain eastbound traffic across the bridge. Westbound traffic will be redirected to the 16 Avenue N.W. overpass.

Access to the Jubilee Auditorium, for vehicles coming from 16th Avenue NW and 14th Street Southbound, will be limited to a single Eastbound lane across the 14th Avenue overpass. Exception: There will be a full bridge closure — April 13 -14 from 9 pm to 5 am

All traffic exiting the Jubilee to 14th Avenue NW will be diverted North towards 16th Avenue NW (and detour back to 14th Street Southbound if needed).

Timeline: Spring to Fall 2026.

The 14 Avenue N.W. bridge over 14 Street is an important connection for SAIT and the Alberta University of the Arts students and faculty, as well as for Calgarians going to shows, concerts and events at the Southern Alberta Jubilee.

Update from the city of Calgary regarding 14th avenue NW construction.

The 14 Avenue N.W. Reconstruction and Mobility Improvements project is being deferred to the 2027 construction season.

By deferring work from later this summer to spring 2027, we will minimize impacts in the community by completing the project in one construction and better aligning with other projects in the area.

Due to the limited time this year to get a contractor on board and achieve meaningful progress, deferring construction allows us to prepare plans to start work early and 2027. Procuring a contractor this fall/winter will allow us to monitor and take advantage of market conditions to get the best value.

With the City near the end of the current capital cycle, starting construction next year will also align with required funding and budget approvals.
