A sombre day of remembrance for the Spitak Earthquake. On December 7, 1988, a devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck northern Armenia, impacting cities like Spitak, then Leninakan (now Gyumri), and Kirovakan (now Vanadzor). The destruction was immense, leaving entire towns in ruins and countless lives shattered.
​The human cost was immense, with over 25,000 lives lost, tens of thousands injured, and hundreds of thousands left homeless. Yet, amidst the unimaginable destruction, an incredible spirit of resilience emerged. International aid poured in, and the Armenian people, united in their grief, began the arduous process of rebuilding.

A monument to legendary singer Charles Aznavour has been installed in Yerevan’s Charles Aznavour Square. The sculptor of the “La Bohème” sculpture is David Minasyan.

The official unveiling of the statue is scheduled for July 18 at 11:00 AM in Aznavour Square.
