The goodest employees were out in full force last Friday! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฆ…

Our Beach Paw Patrol team was hard at work helping keep birds off the beach so residents can enjoy a cleaner shoreline all summer long.

Last week's patrol was also a special photo and video shoot, which is why you might spot more pups than usual in this post! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿถ Normally, only a couple of our canine crew are on duty at a time.

Our Paw Patrol program is full for this year but don't worry! You can always apply next year. Applications typically open up in mid-March so keep an eye out! ๐Ÿ‘€

It's time for Water Safety Wednesday!

Floaties and inflatable water toys can be a fun part of lake days โ˜€๏ธ

But itโ€™s important to remember that they arenโ€™t designed to replace lifejackets or active supervision around the water.

๐ŸŒŠ Inflatable toys can slip off, drift away, or deflate unexpectedly.

For added safety around the lake, properly fitted lifejackets are always the best choice โ€” especially for younger children and weaker swimmers.

๐Ÿฆบ Lifejackets are mandatory for anyone using ABRA watercraft.

Residents should also be aware that the City of Calgary Water Safety Bylaw requires anyone using a watercraft, raft, tube, paddleboard, canoe, kayak, or other inflatable device capable of keeping a person afloat to wear an approved lifejacket or personal flotation device (PFD). Failure to comply may result in a mandatory court appearance and fines of up to $500.

Need a lifejacket?
ABRA has free lifejacket loaner stations located throughout the beach area and at the Boathouse, with sizes available for all ages.

๐ŸŒŠ Lake Status Update โ€“ Yellow Flags in Effect

Recent cool temperatures and stormy weather have lowered the lake water temperature to 12.5ยฐC, below the 15ยฐC threshold for green flags.

The lake remains open; however, yellow flags are in effect and residents are encouraged to use caution, as cold water can affect the body quickly.

Our team will continue to monitor conditions daily and will return to green flags once water temperatures consistently reach 15ยฐC or higher.

Thank you for your understanding as we continue to prioritize the safety of all lake users.

Lake hazards arenโ€™t always obvious ๐Ÿ‘€

Drop-offs, changing depths, underwater debris, weeds, and reduced visibility can all affect lake conditions โ€” even in familiar areas.

Before heading into the water:
๐ŸŒŠ Take a moment to observe your surroundings
๐Ÿ‘ฃ Enter feet first in unfamiliar areas
๐Ÿ›Ÿ Stay close to shore and know your limits

Conditions can change throughout the season, so staying aware around the water can make a big difference.
