Last, but definitely not least, the ALS Society of Alberta would like to thank the community of Hinton, the coordinators, donors, supporters, and everyone who showed up to make Hinton Side by Side for ALS so memorable! 💜 The scenic Beaver Boardwalk doesn't need any help being special, but the community that came together made the event unforgettable!

Thank you to Chestermere Professional Firefighters Association for hosting their Campout for a Cause in support of the ALS Society of Alberta! 💜 On October 14, until October 17, firefighters will be camping out on their roof to raise money in support of one of their own. The twist? Each donation tier unlocked gives the firefighters camping out valuable items - such as sleeping bags, tents, or even smores! A hopeful step forward for people living with FUS-ALS. 💜

Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Ionis Pharmaceuticals have announced positive results from a major trial of ulefnersen, a treatment being developed for this rare genetic form of ALS. People who received ulefnersen did better than those who received a placebo on a measure that looked at physical abilities and survival together.

The full results still need to be shared and reviewed. Ulefnersen remains an investigational treatment and is not approved in Canada or elsewhere.

For people living with FUS-ALS and their families, this news offers real hope. It also shows why investing in research matters. Progress takes years of work, and it depends on researchers, funders, and people living with ALS who choose to take part in studies.

We’re grateful to everyone who made this trial possible. We’ll keep following the results and sharing what we learn with our community.
