Statement from Grateful Hearts Global Foundation
It is with profound sorrow that we share this message today.
Canada has long been recognized as a peaceful and welcoming nation — a place where families from around the world seek safety, stability, and hope. Many of us came to this country to escape violence and uncertainty, trusting in the promise of a land that values peace, freedom, and human dignity.
Hearing of another shooting deeply shakes that sense of security.
As parents, community members, and advocates for families, our hearts are heavy. We think about children walking into their classrooms, parents commuting to work, and students traveling on public transit — ordinary, everyday moments that should never be overshadowed by fear. No family should ever receive a call that changes their lives forever. No child should ever feel unsafe at school.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families who are grieving. Words cannot adequately express the sorrow we feel for your loss. Grateful Hearts Global Foundation stands with you in solidarity, compassion, and prayer during this unimaginable time.
We also acknowledge the strength of the community as it comes together to support one another. We appreciate the efforts of local organizations, including the Calgary Board of Education, for sharing resources and emergency contacts, and we recognize the many individuals offering help, comfort, and solidarity. In times of tragedy, compassion is one of our greatest sources of strength.
At the same time, we must ask difficult but necessary questions about the rise of gun violence in Canada. Protecting our communities requires serious, sustained commitment. We call upon government leaders and policymakers to continue pursuing meaningful solutions that safeguard our children, our schools, and our neighborhoods.
To our Canada family: let us stand united. Let us protect the values that make this country a refuge and a home. Let us support one another, advocate for safety, and work together toward a future where tragedies like this no longer occur.
