For a family, it might be a backyard where the kids can play. A bedroom with a door they can close. Housing costs they can count on.

On World Habitat Day, we’re kicking off Let’s Open the Door, our fall campaign for affordable homeownership in Southern Alberta.

Our Crew Leaders have a way of making a new task feel possible. 💙

At Women Build, they showed participants how to do the work, answered questions, and stayed right beside them as they gave it a try. They shared their skills all week while helping move homes forward in Chestermere.

To our Crew Leaders: thank you for your patience, encouragement and the care you bring to every build day. You helped make this a week people will remember.

Women Build 2026 is officially underway!

More than 30 women joined us in Chestermere for the first day of building, including teams from presenting sponsor Volker Stevin and exclusive media sponsor CTV Calgary.

CTV’s Tara Nelson returned as a Women Build ambassador and brought her trademark enthusiasm to the site. She called it one of her favourite days of the year, and we are thrilled to have her continue lending her voice and support to the build.

There was plenty of pink on site, but even more teamwork, skill and determination. Together, these women are helping move construction forward on 24 affordable homes in Dawson’s Landing.

“Over the years, I have been involved in many different charitable endeavours but none can rival the positive impact that a Habitat home makes for families.” He's got a big smile, a generous heart, and has given more than 2000 hours locally to build affordable homes.

This September, Cliff is celebrating 11 years of volunteering with Habitat Southern Alberta.

“We are going to be the first homeowners in my immediate family, so that’s very exciting.” After years of renting and frequent moves, Stephanie and her son are preparing for their first-ever home.

Stephanie is currently completing 500 volunteer hours and will purchase her home with no down payment and will pay no interest on her affordable mortgage.

Thinking forward to what their new home will mean to them, she says, “I really think about comfort and something that is stable and safe. I’m really excited to really make it our own home and decorate and be able to feel accomplished.”
