♟️ Checkmate Foundation 2026 Summer Camp! ☀️

We had an amazing time at our 2026 Summer Camp, hosted in partnership with Diversecities Community Service Association! From learning new chess skills and strategies to making new friends and playing plenty of games, it was a great few days of learning, competition, and fun.

A huge thank you to our incredible instructors Brian, Vincent, Aneeq, and Areeb for sharing their time, knowledge, and enthusiasm with our participants. We also want to recognize Mac and Tina for all their work behind the scenes helping organize and make the camp possible.

We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, including the Students’ Union Committee of 10K and Glocal Microgrants, whose support helps us continue offering free and accessible community programs. These opportunities would not be possible without organizations that believe in investing in youth and community programming. ❤️

We were also very happy to partner with Diversecities, a Calgary charitable organization that has served the community for more than 40 years and works to support inclusive opportunities for Calgarians. Learn more about their work at:

♟️ **Another Great Chess Day at Signal Hill Library!**

On July 25th, Checkmate Foundation returned to Signal Hill Library for another successful Chess Day! We welcomed **13 participants** for an afternoon of learning, friendly games, and connecting through chess.

A huge thank you to our **Program Director, David Akingbade**, for leading and organizing another great session, as well as to our volunteers for helping everything run smoothly.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us! Whether you came to learn, practice, or simply enjoy a few games, we loved having you there.

Thank you to **Signal Hill Library** for continuing to provide a welcoming space for our chess programming.

♟️ Thank You for Another Great Chess Day!

On July 18th, Checkmate Foundation hosted another Chess Day at Signal Hill Library, welcoming around 20 participants for an afternoon of chess, learning, and friendly competition!

A huge thank you to our Program Director, David Akingbade, for organizing and leading the event, and to Khim and our two wonderful volunteers for giving their time and helping make the day run smoothly.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out and participated! We’re always excited to see people of different ages and skill levels come together over a shared love of chess.

Thank you to Signal Hill Library for providing the space and supporting opportunities like this in the community.
