This weekend, 1910 set out on an adventure to Camp Howard for an Area Directed Activity, otherwise known as an ADA. 1910 joined two other cadet corps, taking part in a couple of activities, such as reviewing their navigation skills, learning about ground signalling, and learning orienteering courses.
Cadets also got the chance to do more hands on experiences that they only get to do once in a while when they're outdoors, going on hikes to see mountain views and sleeping in tents and hootchies, which are man made shelters fashioned out of tarps used in field training.

Our cadets had a fantastic exercise with tons of fun. We hope that they all have ample rest for the week ahead.

On April 26th, 1910 Cadets recently accompanied the King's Own Calgary Regiment in the annual St George's Day Parade, where they marched through the streets of Calgary in recognition of the regiment's patron saint.

Cadets dawned their ceremonial uniforms and wore red roses on their berets symbolizing the legend of a rose bush growing from the dragon's blood after St George defeated it.

April 18th, 1910's Adventure Training Day!

After a while of learning and theorizing how to use outdoor skills indoors, our cadets finally got the chance to put their new skills to use by taking on a day out in the field. Cadets attended lessons on first aid, experimented with camouflage, went out on a navigation exercise using a map and compass, as well as practiced communication and coordination with team building exercises.

1910 went all out this day, and we want to acknowledge each and every one who was able to attend. Here's to more experiences like this one!

This past weekend, 1910's Drill Team competed in the Spielman Cup Drill Competition, where Southern Albertan teams go head to head…and WON! 🏆

After weeks of hard work, dedication, and giving up their Wednesday nights to train together, the team’s effort paid off.

With this result, 1910 now advances to the Kozar Cup in Edmonton, where the top teams in the province compete for the title of best drill team in Alberta.

1910 is incredibly proud of this team and everything they’ve accomplished. This win reflects not only their skill, but their commitment to each other and to the standard of excellence they represent.

Next stop: Edmonton!

Not all classrooms have four walls:

In the Army Cadet program, one of the many adventures available to cadets is expedition! This is where cadets have the opportunity to explore the wilderness through hiking, biking and canoeing.

When cadets turn 15, they gain the opportunity to go to summer camp! In the past, one option included;
the chance to go to Ontario for 3 weeks with cadets from across the country, and hike, bike and canoe through Ontario’s beautiful Massasauga Provincial Park!

Other opportunities include the chance to explore our own beautiful Rocky Mountain area and meet fellow cadets from the region.

Besides the invaluable skills associated with expedition such as navigation, fire starting, hiking skills, fishing, and the exploration of our ecosystem; cadets also acquire skills applicable to everyday life, like teamwork, leadership, resilience, adaptation and problem solving.

Life-long friends with shared unique experience is another added bonus!

- Cadet Training Centre (CTC) expedition courses and Regional Expedition are open to those 15-18 years old
- Ages for local expeditions differ

Closing out 2025 🎆

Mess dinners are a long-standing military tradition that bring members together to build camaraderie, and for us, to close out the 2025 training year as a corps.

Right before the holidays, 1910 Army Cadets celebrated the end of the 2025 training year with a field mess dinner, where many new cadets were introduced to the mess dinner tradition as a whole.

It was an amazing way to send 1910 into the New Year!🎊

Now that it's officially snowy season, let’s take a chance to reminisce about the beautiful weather on 1910’s expedition weekend from September 19th to 21st!

Cadets spent the weekend learning and putting their fieldcraft skills to the test, pitching tents, preparing their own meals, and tackling hikes through the stunning fall scenery. Expeditions like these teach essential outdoor skills such as proper backpack packing, route planning, and safe food storage away from wildlife. It’s also a great opportunity for cadets to make new friends and strengthen existing bonds through shared challenges, adventure, and interests.

1910 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps is proud to recognize several outstanding achievements within our corps:

• Chief Warrant Officer Promotion - Congratulations to CWO Zayonce on achieving the highest rank in the Army Cadet Program. Reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer is both an honour and a challenge, as it represents years of leadership, dedication, and service. Unlike other ranks, there is only one CWO in each corps, making this a truly distinguished accomplishment.

• President’s Award (Medal of Merit) - Also presented to CWO Zayonce by Alberta Army Cadet League President Kara Hughes for being recognized as the Top Army Cadet in Alberta.

• Canadian Forces Decoration - Awarded to Lt(N) Casara Ogilvie, the Commanding Officer of 1910, for 12 years of dedicated military service. This decoration was presented by the Southern Alberta Area Zone Training Officer.

• National League Scholarship - This $1,000 scholarship, presented by Margaret Monsacci from the Board of Governors of the Army Cadet League of Canada, was awarded to MWO Durkee. Because of the opportunities she has had to instruct in the Cadet Program, she is now pursuing a degree in Education.
These achievements reflect the dedication, perseverance, and excellence demonstrated by both our cadets and staff. Congratulations to all recipients on their well-deserved recognition!
