A radical thinker, Sikh philosopher, professor, and Sikh activist, Dr Prabhsharanbir Singh has graciously agreed to join the panel for the Alberta Panthic Conference.

We encourage everyone to come out and attend this event, ask questions, share thoughts, experiences, and information.

Location is Monterey Park Community Centre from 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

A look at just a few of our prominent leaders and shaheeds in modern Sikh history.

As a bare minimum, we should keep these ਮਹਾਨ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ (Mahan Shaheeds) in mind at all times. They carried out their duties for ਧਰਮ (dharam) beautifully and with honor. We must learn from their sacrifices and how to pursue a higher purpose.

After weeks of international protest, the ongoing repression of Sikhs in Panjab by the Central government in India, and many other Panthic Conferences across the diaspora, it is crucial that the Alberta Sikh Panth sit and discuss the ongoing issues and collectively agree on the next steps for the campaign, and for the call for Sarbat Khalsa 2023.

We want to hold a provincial Panthic Conference with all Sikh organizations and Jathebandies to organize ourselves and align ourselves with a common goal and vision. Please send this post to any groups and organizations that should attend. All Sangat is also welcome to join.

We’ve seen plenty of misinformation come out the past couple weeks. While much of it is intentionally propagated by the Indian state, some of it is propagated out of ignorance as well.

We must all do our part by unlearning Indian narratives and propaganda, learning our history and connecting to Sikhi through Gurbani.

Recently, this Nishaan Sahib has been popularized as being the “Flag of the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singhs rule” as a counter narrative to the Panjab Police saying this is a “Khalistan Flag.” Both are incorrect however, the use of this Nishaan Sahib as a rallying cry for Sarbat Khalsa 2023 is genius as it flips Panjab Police ignorance and Indian media propaganda on its head. It allows us to weaponize and use to our advantage what the Indian government hoped would discredit us.

Much like how the Mughals called Sikh children “Bhujangis” meaning “snakes offspring” as an insult, but the term was later adopted by Sikhs as a term of endearment. This spirit of Chardi Kala (the state of mind in which a person has no negative emotions like fear, jealousy or enmity) exists within us to this day.

My fellow Sikhs; why are you silent? Is it insecurity? Is it fear? Do you not believe these problems matter? Is it because you are not directly inconvenienced by these issues and therefore, they don’t require your attention?

What force could there be that is actively silencing you from raising your voice for your kaum? How can we help address that?

Whenever we see any type of struggle and agitation begin in Punjab, many Sikhs outside of India also organize and demonstrate in their countries of residence.

A question that comes up during these protests is what difference does it make if Sikhs and Punjabis outside of India protest for injustices committed in India? It is a valid question to ask and each individual who does protest has their own answer for it, while those who cannot answer that question might not participate in demonstrations at all. After all, why take time out of your day to protest when you don't see a reason behind it?

However, if you can view them through a different perspective, the protests organized by the diaspora serve a great purpose and make them very necessary for the foreseeable future.

There are three key reasons why those who care about issues surrounding Punjab and Sikhs should participate and organize demonstrations in their respective nations.
