From the bottom of our hearts, the Calgary Firefighter Toy Association wants to say thank you to an incredible community that made this day possible.

To every person who donated a toy your generosity put smiles on thousands of children’s faces.

This event is built through a shared commitment from Calgary firefighters, who quietly support it year after year through ongoing contributions from each paycheque, and then come together as volunteers to bring the day to life for local families

To the families we were honoured to host thank you for sharing this special day with us.

To the volunteers who showed up early, stayed late, lifted, organized, wrapped, guided, entertained, and supported we truly couldn’t do this without you.

The Calgary Firefighter Toy Association extends its heartfelt condolences to Larry’s family and loved ones. His years of service, his kindness, and his passion helped build the foundation of the Toy Association, and his memory will forever remain a cherished part of its history.

Larry’s connection to the CFD Toy Association began in 1962, back when he was just starting out as a rookie firefighter. He spent countless hours in the firehalls bringing life back to donated toys stripping, painting, removing rust, fixing squeaks, and making sure every broken part was mended. Once the toys were shining and ready, they were carefully wrapped and handed out to children, a tradition that warmed hearts for many years.
As time went on and Larry became involved in other areas of the CFD, he stepped away for a while. But in 1980, he came back to the Toy Association, this time with his wife, Carol, joining him. Larry wrapped presents, shopped for toys, and earned a special place in everyone’s memory as the “kitchen boss.” With his mix of humor and compassion, he made the kitchen a welcoming and lively place for all the volunteers.
Larry continued to give his time and energy until 2006, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, and dedication that will always be remembered.
