Do you know what Buckthorn is??
It is an invasive shrub/small tree introduced to North America known to form dense thickets that outcompete native plants and disrupting ecosystems and even hosting crop disease fungi. Since 2022 the Friends of LaFortune Park has dedicated time and efforts to extracting buckthorn from the park. Attached is a photo of the park and all the spots throughout the years that we have worked hard in removing buckthorn. If you’d like to help out or looking for more information reach out to us via messenger or email us at [email protected]. Our January monthly meeting is this Wednesday January 7 at McKinnon Park High School in the Bistro room from 7-9pm

Good Morning! We have a beautiful beech tree in the park that carries some facinating history - it’s bark is etched with carvings from years past.

This tree is scheduled to be removed in the near future, and before this happens, we’d love to hear any stories or memories connected to these carvings.

While we don’t encourage carving into trees - as it can damage their protective bark and make them vulnerable to disease, fungi and pests - we’d love to preserve this history and memories this tree represents.

Share your stories below or email and message us!

Did you know that it is International Bat Night!

Bats are the only mammals that can truly fly. These amazing night travelers play a mega role in keeping our ecosystems balanced and assist in pollinating plants. Bats eat also thousands of insects each night.

Did you know LaFortune Park has two Bat boxes to support and help our tiny night friends!
