Orangeville Art Group Serving members and the cultural community for over 70 years around Orangeville, Ontario, Canada.

The Orangeville Art Group (OAG) is a not for profit organization. Our mandate is to encourage and promote an appreciation of art; to provide members with opportunities to display their work; to co-operate with other organizations in presenting viewpoints of the art community; to encourage and arrange instruction in art; to provide for contact among members. The highlight of our year is the Annual

Fall Show and Sale, featuring works in watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastels and other mediums. This year our 42nd held at the front banquet hall along with the GDACC HOME Show which is in the rear display halls at the Orangeville Agricultural Centre. The OAG is involved in the artistic community, as a partner in the Hills of Headwaters Arts Festival and has co-sponsored events hosted by The Dufferin County Museum and Archives.

Coming up: 'UNDERSTANDING COLOUR' Landscape Painting

with JOHN DAVID ANDERSON

'CLASSICAL', 'IMPRESSIONIST' and 'MODERN' Colours

November 22, 2025 10-3pm

Join acclaimed Canadian Landscape artist and art instructor John David Anderson for an exciting opportunity to learn how to use Classical and Modern / Contemporary colours in your paintings.

Explore how to develop and use vibrant colour to interpret the Ontario landscape.

John will begin with a talk on understanding Classical, Impressionist and Contemporary paint colours.
He will include valuable information about the history and development of paint and how to choose and use the different colours in your paintings.

Transform your paintings by learning how to use and control modern synthetic colours without overpowering your painting.

John will do demonstrations throughout the day.
During the day, participants will paint with one-on-one guidance on their progress with regular feedback on their respective painting.

There will be a valuable final critique of your painting at the end of the day for all participants.

Suitable for oil and acrylics. John will do demos in oil and will provide a colourful landscape reference photo ahead of class for you to sketch / paint the image on your.

Orangeville Art Group held two very successful landscape painting workshops featuring acclaimed realism painter, Barry McCarthy on Saturday, 18th and 25th October. The workshop topic was '2-Day Oil Painting Workshop with Barry McCarthy' Canadian Realism Painter. Barry demonstrated painting techniques, shared valuable information, gave valuable critiques - he covered a lot in the two consecutive weekends.

We appreciate the guidance and expertise you shared with our artists!!

OAG Celebrates 70 Years of Artistic Excellence in the Community at the Shelburne Town Hall Art Gallery

We have just completed our first and very successful exhibition, which took place from July 7 to the 25th at the Shelburne Town Hall.

The OAG would like to extend a special thanks to Melissa Kenney, Communications Coordinator and Chantel Richards, Administration Services, for providing the promotion, the tasteful attention to detail in the setting up, and of course, the beautiful historic Shelburne Town Hall Art Gallery.

a 3-DAY OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP with
BARRY MCCARTHY, Canadian Realism Painter
2 full painting days + 1 day at Barry McCarthy's Studio in Fergus
Saturday, May 10 & 24th 10 - 3:30 pm

Barry McCarthy is an established and well-known Canadian contemporary realist painter represented by the Loch Gallery, Toronto and with 3 books of his work published.

During 2 days of painting, Barry will give hourly demonstration of his oil painting techniques and working 'one on one' with the participants.

“I will teach you how to paint one of my paintings, step by step, creating your own masterpiece.

I will share some design strategies and processes and lecture about 'what makes a good painting'.

We will work towards the process which I will explain and why.
The day will go by quickly. I will cover so much information in this workshop from composition, techniques, including how to sell your work and approach art galleries.”

The CLASS SIZE is LIMITED

Barry has offered a follow-up day (limited to the first 5 registrants due to the limited space) at his Fergus Studio: "At our last meeting, I will critique the finished paintings and we will have the opportunity to view his paintings, studio space, furniture etc."

TAKE YOUR LANDSCAPE PAINTING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Join acclaimed Canadian Landscape artist and art instructor John David Anderson for an exciting opportunity to work at developing your own style and goals in a larger format.

Take advantage of this workshop to take your painting to the next level in finishing your work!

Focus will be on attaining the 'Next Level' in finishing a large landscape.

Have you always wanted to push yourself to work on a larger canvas? This is your chance to attain the next level in your painting.

​John will do demonstrations throughout the day. He will provide guidance on a 'one to one' to get you to the 'next level' in completing your work with confidence. John will provide participants with regular feedback on their respective painting. There will be a valuable final critique of your painting at the end of the day for all participants.

​Plus: If you took any of the previous OAG 'Next Level' Workshops on Nov. 16 or Dec. 7, you can bring in your finished painting for a 'one on one' critique with John David Anderson.
