Today, on International Day Against Trafficking Persons, we recognize the importance of raising awareness, supporting survivors, and working together to prevent exploitation.

Human s*x trafficking can affect anyone, and ending it requires communities, organizations, and individuals to take action.

Through nCourage, partners across Peel Region are collaborating to strengthen prevention, provide trauma informed support, and help children and youth access the care they need.

Together, we can help create safer communities and a future free from exploitation.

Human trafficking can impact any community and awareness is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent it.

Recently, Peel Children’s Aid Society (Peel CAS) Executive Coordinator for Service, DEI & Truth and Reconciliation, Zeina Adra, represented nCourage and our partners in an Arabic-language interview to help share resources for anti-human trafficking, s*xual exploitation, and the supports available across Peel Region. Many thanks to هو ده الكلام (That’s The Talk) team for hosting us 💜

The segment explored:
🔹 Common myths about human trafficking
🔹 How traffickers use grooming and manipulation to exploit young people
🔹 Warning signs parents, caregivers and community members should know
🔹 How nCourage provides confidential, trauma-informed support for children, youth and young adults impacted by human trafficking

Prevention starts with awareness. By recognizing the signs, having open conversations, and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, we can all play a role in protecting children and youth.

Thank you to Zeina for helping ensure this critical information reaches more members of our diverse community through culturally responsive outreach.

Thank you to Peel Regional Police for your continued dedication to holding those who exploit vulnerable people accountable. Every investigation and arrest is an important step toward disrupting human trafficking and protecting children, youth, and survivors.

At nCourage, we are proud to work alongside Peel Regional Police and our community partners to provide coordinated, client-centred, trauma-informed support for victims and survivors of human trafficking. By bringing together victim services, child welfare, housing supports, trauma therapists, system navigators, and law enforcement, we are working together to help survivors heal, rebuild their lives, and prevent further exploitation.

If you or someone you know may be at risk, help is available. Learn more about nCourage and how to access support at nCourage.ca

Survivor centered support means reducing barriers to care.

Having services connected under one roof at The Circle (25 Capston Dr., Mississauga) helps the nCourage Hub reduce retraumatization by creating a more coordinated approach to support, so survivors do not have to repeatedly retell their stories to access the care they need.

Because healing should be met with compassion, dignity, and connection.

Knowing how to respond can make a meaningful difference.

If someone discloses that they are being abused, exploited, or trafficked, the most important thing you can do is listen without judgment, take their concerns seriously, and respect their choices. Creating a safe and supportive environment can help build trust and encourage them to access the support they need.

You do not need to have all the answers. By recognizing the signs, and connecting individuals to us, you can help them take the next step towards safety and support.

No one should have to navigate these challenges alone. nCourage is here to help.
