Lakes Animal Friendship

Lakes Animal Friendship We are a non-profit group operated by animal-loving volunteers in the Burns Lake area of beautiful BC, Canada. Children are the most common dog bite victims.

We educate about animal care, compassion and dog bite safety. We help low-income families with spay/neuter, pet food and outdoor dog shelters. We are a non-profit society operated by animal-loving volunteers in Burns Lake, a small rural community in northwest British Columbia. We are working to make sustainable improvements in animal welfare in our community. We have developed successful programs

that we hope will be useful examples to other communities just like ours. Healthy Animals, Families and Communities
Proper animal care is good for the animals and helps keep families and communities safe and healthy! Education
Making a difference starts with education! We educate students and other community members about animal care, compassion and bite safety. Proper animal care and safety skills help keep kids from getting hurt. Students learn about respect for each other and all living things. Spay/Neuter Programs
There are way too many animals and not enough good homes! Spaying and neutering ('fixing') is healthier for your pets, your family and community. We work with groups like the Canadian Animal Assistance Team and The Burns Lake Veterinary Clinic to help lower-income families have their pets spayed and neutered. Scroll Down For More
Dog Houses
Dogs and cats need a warm house for the winter. We fix and insulate donated dog houses. Local school groups and the College have also pitched in to build and paint new houses for dogs and cats in need! YOU can help the animals and help your community. ADOPT — don't buy a pet. SPAY / NEUTER your pet. FOSTER an animal in need. VOLUNTEER at our events. DONATE to our efforts.

Thinking of adding a bunny to your family. Make sure you check out these reminders. Rabbits deserve to be kept inside with you.

At Amy’s Bunny Barn Society, we’re committed to providing the highest standards of care for rabbits and advocating for their needs, both in our care and in their adoptive homes. 🐰❤️

One of the most common issues we see is inappropriate housing, often due to outdated information, pet stores, breeders, rescues with lower standards, or simply what people have been taught.

Tiny cages are not appropriate housing for rabbits. Here’s why:

🐰 Exercise & enrichment: Rabbits need room to hop, run, play, stretch, explore, and relax. Limited space can lead to boredom, stress, and destructive behaviours.

🐰 Physical health: Lack of movement can contribute to muscle weakness, joint and skeletal problems, obesity, and other health issues.

🐰 Natural behaviours: Rabbits need space to explore, dig, hide, forage, and socialize. Confinement prevents them from behaving naturally.

🐰 Stress & anxiety: Being confined to a small space can cause frustration, stress, cage aggression, withdrawal, and other harmful behaviours.

🐰 Hygiene: Rabbits are naturally clean animals and need enough space to separate their living and bathroom areas. Tiny cages can force them to sit in their own waste, increasing the risk of urine scald and infection.

🐰 Social needs: Rabbits are social animals who benefit from companionship, interaction, and bonding with their humans and/or a compatible rabbit.

🐰 Comfort & safety: Rabbits need enough space to move away from heat, cold, drafts, and direct sunlight, as well as access to appropriate hiding and resting areas.

Our standards will never be lowered. Rabbits deserve more than simply being kept alive. They deserve space, enrichment, companionship, and the opportunity to truly thrive. 🐇💕
